Position Summary
Canyon Market, a full-service natural foods grocery in the Glen Park neighborhood, is hiring a dynamic, food-centric, service-driven leader. The store manager oversees operations, staff schedules, purchasing, food quality, and safety; he or she has profit-and-loss responsibility, supports the company mission, and works daily to advance the values of the company. The store manager directly supervises ten store departments and their supervisors; he or she also participates in senior management meetings. This position offers opportunities to apply cutting-edge merchant skills with hands-on, grass-roots management of a dynamic neighborhood business in one of the most exciting cities in the world.

Qualifications and Skills

  • College degree preferred
  • Minimum two years of retail food management experience
  • Proven experience managing high-performance teams
  • Comfort with balancing the myriad human resource demands, laws, and best practices
  • Merchandising skills or experience working with successful merchandising and promotion programs
  • Knowledge of sanitation standards, health code compliance, and best safety practices in the food business
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Is a safety zealot; ensures compliance and continuous improvement in occupational and food safety
  • Experience managing neighborhood and local government concerns, requests and compliance
  • A keen interest in business performance metrics
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish and English) a big plus
  • Proficient with productivity software; familiar with database interfaces for payroll, inventory and POS
