We customize our service and products to the needs of our immediate community. We are an independent, full-service market, run by Janet and Richard Tarlov and a wonderful team of enthusiastic employees, mostly local residents.

From coffee in the morning to pastries after dinner, we provide all the needs for everyday eating, holiday entertaining and special occasions. We are part of an emerging trend of urban hybrid markets that fuse the traditional groceries with natural groceries and specialty lines, all tailored to the neighborhood.

Position Summary
Canyon Market, a full-service natural foods grocery in the Glen Park neighborhood, is hiring a dynamic, food-centric, service-driven leader. The store manager oversees operations, staff schedules, purchasing, food quality, and safety; he or she has profit-and-loss responsibility, supports the company mission, and works daily to advance the values of the company. The store manager directly supervises ten store departments and their supervisors; he or she also participates in senior management meetings. This position offers opportunities to apply cutting-edge merchant skills with hands-on, grass-roots management of a dynamic neighborhood business in one of the most exciting cities in the world.

• Knowledge of the natural foods retail industry
• Technical aptitude to oversee physical inventory controls and point-of-sale accuracy

Qualifications and Skills

• College degree preferred
• Minimum two years of retail food management experience
• Proven experience managing high-performance teams
• Comfort with balancing the myriad human resource demands, laws, and best practices
• Merchandising skills or experience working with successful merchandising and promotion programs
• Knowledge of sanitation standards, health code compliance, and best safety practices in the food business
• Strong attention to detail
• Is a safety zealot; ensures compliance and continuous improvement in occupational and food safety
• Experience managing neighborhood and local government concerns, requests and compliance
• A keen interest in business performance metrics
• Strong written communication skills
• Bi-lingual (Spanish and English) a big plus
• Proficient with productivity software; familiar with database interfaces for payroll, inventory and POS
