  • Date Posted August 10, 2019
  • Location Greensboro, NC
  • Category Agriculture / Nonprofit
  • Job type Part-Time
Company description

The Greensboro Farmers Curb Market is a producer-only farmers market with all products originating 100 miles or less from Greensboro. It is located at 501 Yanceyville Street, at the corner of Lindsay Street, and Yanceyville Street across from the War Memorial Stadium and operates year-round on Saturdays 7 am to 12 pm and seasonally on Wednesdays 8 am- 12 pm. The Market is an indoor facility with free admission, WiFi, and plenty of free parking as well as an ATM on site.

Our History: The Curb Market, probably the oldest producers' market in North Carolina, was founded by the City of Greensboro in 1874.

Who are we? Greensboro Farmers Market, Inc (GFM), a 501c3 non-profit, operates the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market on behalf of the City of Greensboro. Among its responsibilities to the City is ensuring the Market remains a producer only market; i.e., the products sold at the Market are grown or made by the sellers. About seventy-five percent of annual table rentals are to farmers, maintaining the Curb Market as a vibrant source of fresh foods year-round! The Market currently has 173 vendor tables and 120+/- vendors, many of whom rent tables by the day. About 250,000 customers visit the Market each year with peak summer days drawing over 4000 - 7000 customers. Monthly pancake and breakfast fundraisers are popular and provide vital funds to the operation of the Market and the Market's food security programs.

These Food Security Programs include accepting and doubling benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). We believe everyone should have access to FRESH and NUTRITIOUS foods and therefore GFM navigates partnerships and grant funding to increase our food security programming. Not only to these programs provide healthy foods to those in need, but they also increase our farmers’ incomes and work to strengthen our local food system. GFM relies on fundraisers, grants, and community donations to operate the Market and food security programming.

What’s Our Mission? GFM provides the Greater Greensboro area with opportunities to purchase and learn about local foods in a friendly and diverse social setting. GFM encourages and supports the growth of local foods and artisan goods businesses to improve Greater Greensboro’s economy, support better health through healthy eating and build social and community connections.
