Company description

Serenity Acres is a new generation goat dairy in its 10th year focusing on animal welfare approved principles and sustainability. We produce milk year round and we produce dairy products for a farmers market and for our goatmilk soap and skincare line. We host workshops, goat yoga and many farm tours throughout the year.  The farm is situated in North Florida, halfway between Jacksonville and Tallahassee and about 20 miles south of Valdosta. We work with dairy goats, truly free-range chickens for eggs, and also have a small herd of Black Angus Cattle. The work hours are determined by the task and may include night hours during kidding season, early mornings for milking, and evening hours for market preparations. North Florida is well known for its recreational opportunities including kayaking, hiking and biking.  

Internship description

We are looking for an energetic and positive person who is as passionate about healthy food, healthy living, happy animals and sustainability as we are, and who is interested in learning, working and living on a working farm & goat dairy in a community setting. The desire to have your own farm/homestead in the future would be great. Good communication skills are a must, and being a morning person would be great. Ability to multitask is necessary,  as is the ability to be on time, reliable and professional along with a good sense of humor. You will be working with volunteers from all over the world and the farm owners. Previous farm experience is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* taking care of day to day herd needs (health, food, water etc)
* animal husbandry (breeding, birthing, trimming, minor medical care)
* back up for milking and in the dairy kitchen
* monitoring and managing pastures
* monitoring inventory of feed and hay including restocking, purchasing etc)
* assisting with repairs and maintenance
* driving Tractors and Other Farm vehicles and equipment
* routine Maintenance of Farm Vehicles and Equipment
* assisting with training and supervising temporary volunteers
* hosting visitors on the Farm
* Other tasks as assigned by Farm Owner. Life on the farm is always a surprise. 

Work Schedule:
We work six days a week. One full day off a week, additional half days are likely. 
8  hour work days, some longer, some shorter. Typically from 7a to 1p and 4p - 6p. 
Vacation and Sick days as needed, minimum 10 days vacation and 5 days sick leave,  may have to work on holidays.

Compensation is partially monetary ($600/month) plus partially provided for in free housing, utilities, internet/wifi, incidentals, food, plus provision of a farm phone, and use of farm vehicles and fuel (valued at $ 1,310/month) for a total compensation value of $1,910/month. Education value = priceless :).
