Job description

Job responsibilities:
-Candidates should only respond if they have experience in the following: large farm site maintenance/landscaping and organic gardening, facility maintenance, basic tractor and farming machinery maintenance, and extensive background in equine care-taking. This position requires both physical labor and management of additional hired day labor as needed. Assistance and interest in farm's non-profit programs will be required as well (see below).

-Any experience in organic gardening and other livestock herd management is valued.

-The farm manager will be responsible for the feeding of approximately 8 horses, manure management, scheduling and assisting vet, chiropractor, farrier, etc. as needed. This is not a riding/horse training position.

-Farm partners with non-profit organization that serves at risk youth to teach outdoor education, organic farming practices, holistic livestock management and facilitate interaction with animals, especially horses, in a therapeutic way.

Farm cultivates a one acre organic garden exclusively for donation to the local food bank. Coordination is required with the local food bank's volunteer program to offer the public an opportunity to spend time on a working farm and help those with food insecurity enjoy organic and fresh produce.

Ideal character is an open-minded, self-motivated individual comfortable working with diverse cultures, values organic farming, holistic equine care and trust based horse training methods. Many days are solitary during the slow season.

Housing included along with $35-$40K salary, depending on experience.

The schedule will be M-F, averaging 40 hours per week, with two and occasionally three weekends per month requiring simply the feeding and basic chores related to the horses (weekend chores take approx. 2.5hrs per day). Candidate must be willing to work more hours as needed during the peak season for farming activities and able to do various additional manual labor tasks when needed.
