Retail/Farmstand Market Staff Granor Farm

  • Date Posted November 20, 2019
  • Location Three Oaks, MI
  • Category Agriculture
  • Job type Full-Time
Company description

Granor Farm, located in Three Oaks, MI, grows Certified Organic vegetables, herbs, flowers & grains on approximately 125 acres. We also have two flocks of laying hens. We market through an on-site farmstand, CSA program, local farmer’s markets, and area restaurants/grocery stores. We offer extensive programming including weekly Taste of Granor dinners (made by our in-house chef), workshops, and a children’s farm camp. We are currently expanding our grain operation and have a relationship with a local organic distillery to produce a 100% organic rye whiskey. Granor is located in the heart of SW Michigan's Harbor Country, close to Lake Michigan beaches and vibrant small towns, just 90 miles from Chicago.

Job description

Granor Farm is seeking highly motivated and experienced individuals to join our team. For the right candidate, there is potential for promotion within our farm as we expand our operations. We are currently expanding in two areas of our business: on-site farmstand/retail and field work.

We are in the process of expanding our on-site farmstand to include four areas of retail: 1) our own Certified Organic vegetables, herbs, flowers and fruit,  2) refrigerated and frozen meats, cheeses and value-added products, 3) shelf-stable pantry items and 4) a small, highly-curated ‘home goods’ section.

Responsibilities include all aspects of working our farmstand: opening and closing the farmstand, stocking produce, explaining our farm programming to new customers with a welcoming and friendly attitude, managing inventory, packing wholesale orders, facilitating on-farm CSA pickups, maintaining organizational and cleaning standards, recording sales, working with a computerized Point of Sale system, and communicating with the farm manager and market manager.

Market staff will also participate in harvest and post-harvest handling. As with any small farm, sometimes additional farm chores and projects may be required. This would include greenhouse and hoop house management, general farm chores, care of hens and large field projects as needed. Weekend work is required.

Qualifications:

  • Willingness to work 40+ hours a week. Hours shift seasonally.
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs. Bending, standing and lifting for long periods of time is part of the job.
  • A qualified candidate will possess a strong work ethic, positive attitude, physical fitness and a good sense of humor.
  • Desire to become a part of the Harbor Country community long-term a must.
  • Must love working in a team environment and actively participate in internal customer service among the team.
  • Absolutely must be a non-smoker
  • Have a valid driver’s license, must be 18 years or older
  • Strong attention to detail and a love of keeping things tidy, organized and clean.
  • An ideal candidate would cook regularly with vegetables and be able to offer tips and recommendations to our customers about how to prepare vegetables.
  • Previous farm experience a plus, preferably organic.
  • Previous experience in retail, customer service, hospitality or grocery a plus.

Compensation:
