Intensive Vegetable Production MGR Brookfordfarm

  • Date Posted November 20, 2019
  • Location Canterbury, NH
  • Category Agriculture
  • Job type Full-Time
Company description Brookford Farm farms 500 acres organically in the upper Merrimack River valley of NH. We produce 100% grass-fed beef and dairy, pasture-raised pork and poultry, and organic vegetables. Job description We grow our vegetables on 30 acres focusing on high quality, efficient production. Approximately half our acres are committed to summer crops that we pick and sell throughout the warmer months. The other half of our production is focused on producing storage crops which we harvest in bulk and sell throughout the winter months. In an attempt to give certain high value vegetable crops more attention we have begun, in 2019, to plant a 1.5 acre intensive vegetable plot. In this plot we are able to take better care of the crops. By offering generous amounts of compost and installing a easy to operate irrigation system we were able to harvest much more high quality vegetables from smaller acreage. In 2019 we did this as a side project, in 2020 we would like to dedicate an individual to manage the production of this plot.

The Intensive Vegetable Production Manager will be responsible for maintaining a production schedule given to them by the Farm manager. This includes seed propagation in our propagation house, preparing beds, transplanting, weed management, pest and disease control, harvesting and tarping. They will also be responsible for season extension in the intensive space and managing production in the high tunnels.

The Intensive Vegetable Production Manager will be a member of the over all vegetable department and may be asked to help with tasks outside of his/her primary responsibilities. There will be opportunities to ask for labor help as needed for larger projects in the intensive space. The right candidate will have the ability to work well alone and with a group. He/She will also have the ability to lead a group when necessary.

This position is full time, beginning end of February and going through October. There will be many opportunities for full time work to continue through the winter but the job description would change for the off season. Compensation this position is : hourly, varies DOE, $12.00 - $15.00 Application instructions
