Job Description:
Marx Companies is looking for an innovative and ambitious marketing copywriter with culinary curiosity and food writing experience to oversee digital and print coverage in B2B and B2C markets. You will be joining our small but mighty team of six marketing professionals, reporting to our Principal & Marketing Manager, and will work with our two Graphic/Web Designers, Marketing Assistant, and our Chefs (on staff and contractors). We have a lot of fun at work and we also work very hard. Our ideal candidate has published copywriting work, food writing experience, basic SEO knowledge, and an interest in content strategy. In this position, you’ll write about food, cooking, farms and farmers targeted at a diverse audience.

The Marx Companies is a family-owned & operated group dedicated to sourcing the highest quality specialty meats & seafood from around the globe. It started on the East Coast but we maintain our creative office in Seattle’s lower Queen Anne neighborhood. We are all about food and our marketing team works hard to promote it.
Our Audiences:
Marx Companies services through three divisions:
- Consumer customers in our eCommerce business (com)
- Chefs through our Food Service Distribution division (North American Meats & More)
- The buyers, salespeople, and decision-makers that work for our Distributor customers (Marx Imports)
Our Products:
Specialty meat is our main business and we source the finest meats from throughout the world: Grass-fed beef, lamb and venison from New Zealand; rabbit, quail and Iberico pork from Spain; duck, foie gras and chicken from North America; and many more awesome programs. In addition to writing about the technical qualities of various products and how chefs and consumers should prepare them, you’ll be telling the stories of the impeccable farms and farmers that produce our product ranges. We also sell a broad range of fine seafood and produce.
Responsibilities:
- Write content for 15+ brands via digital and print mediums.
- Review & edit existing content.
- Write technical product descriptions for the item pages on MarxFoods.com and for our B2B catalogs.
- Write various training materials for salespeople that work on our team as well as our distributor customers’ teams.
- Write sales-generating media like: Emails, Flyers, Brochures, Mail, and more.
- Content management for a couple thousand pages of our digital properties.
- Follow best practices of our style guides, editorial strategy, and publishing standards to uphold the quality of content.
- Under each brand’s unique voice, write clean and entertaining copy that is well-researched and informed by the marketing strategy.
- Participate constructively in creative collaboration with other team members.
- (If you are a Chef) Assist in the Test Kitchen with cooking and recipe development.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Creative Writing – There’s more creative writing required for this job than technical writing. We’re looking for someone who can write engaging, succinct copy.
- Technical Writing – You will also need to have the technical writing skills and attention to fine detail to make sure our content is accurate down the commas. We need someone with the ability to write articulately and meticulously. Refined copy has a profound impact on audiences. Help up polish every last detail.
- Culinary connection – Whether you were a Chef, worked in a professional kitchen, went to Culinary School, have experience in Food Writing, or something similar; You’ll have an interest in and knowledge of food topics.
- Ability to research, write, edit, and proof customer-facing copy and content for multiple products and experiences.
- Experience with B2B & B2C marketing verticals.
- Proven ability to translate complex source material into compelling stories for a variety of audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to write in a wide range of voices & styles.
- Proficiency in search engine optimization best practices.
- Can develop conceptual ideas that align with overall creative strategy and communicate them through creative and/or technical writing. We’re looking for someone with the ability to envision & articulate how content can be presented and distributed for a variety of audiences in diverse formats and across channels; deep understanding of best content and approaches for different audiences.

Compensation:
$40-50K, great healthcare, 401K, paid time off, free stuff and an awesome work environment.
