We, the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps, believe young people change the world. VYCC Crew Members (15-26 year olds) and Crew Leaders (19+ year olds) join VYCC for a challenging experience, practical and hands-on work, personal growth, and deep connection to the natural world by working on farm and conservation crews across the state. Through this work, it’s VYCC’s mission to teach young people personal responsibility through meaningful work that connects us to the land, community, and one another.

 

Job description VYCC’s Food and Farm Program is a dynamic youth development and food security initiative. It engages young people in sustainable farming to improve access to healthy foods in Vermont communities. The Food and Farm Program grows produce and poultry for the VYCC Health Care Share, a public health project connecting Vermont families who are unable to access fresh food and/or suffer from diet related diseases with a weekly CSA share distributed at their health center. Additionally, Food and Farm Crew Members receive a share of the vegetables grown and engage in cooking projects on the farm that build their own skills in healthy food preparation.

The AmeriCorps
Crew Leader positions play key leadership roles in the Food and Farm Program, which supports almost 70 young people with jobs and service opportunities by engaging in small groups we call crews. Each A*C Crew Leader is responsible for facilitating a crew of youth through their work in food production, group dynamics, and project based learning. Together, their service results in a collaborative effort to mentor youth and support sustainable agriculture while increasing the health and wellbeing of Health Care Share Member-families.  Compensation this position is : salaried Application instructions
