The Center for Children & Young Adults (CCYA) is a three building campus housing homeless youth and young adults between the ages of 12 and 21 who have been abandoned, neglected, and/or abused. In 2010 CCYA shifted to a residential dormitory style model whose mission is to provide youth and young adults with guidance and equip them with life skills for self-sufficiency while creating community connections that will follow them into adulthood.
Job descriptionSeeking semi-experienced, avid gardener or future farmer wanting to improve their skills to work on 1.5 acre garden featuring a hoop house, an in ground vegetable garden and berry patch. Garden has produced over 1,600 pounds of fruits and vegetables in past years. Working in partnership with a trained team of master gardeners, this person will plant, weed, maintain irrigation, and harvest small fruits and vegetables. Other tasks include helping to maintain flock of chickens, working on soil management, cover crops, and food safety for organic garden in a farm to table program benefiting a local charity. This is an excellent opportunity for a Veteran, graduate student or active retiree wanting to learn advanced gardening skills. Candidate must be fit with ability to lift up-to 50lbs; work independently and with groups; basic computer skills, strong verbal communication and willingness to learn.
