Job description

Hidden Villa is seeking an energetic, responsible team player for the position of­­­­­­­­­­­­­ Youth Development Teacher/Teen Camp Supervisor.  

Summary

During the school year, the Youth Development (YD) Teacher/Teen Camp Supervisor position is responsible for daily teaching and safety of Youth Development programs to middle school and high school age youth. During the summer, this position is responsible for the day to day operation of the Teen Camp program. This position is an hourly position and will require occasional weekend and evening work.


Responsibilities and Duties:

General

  1. Know and support leadership in emergency procedures
  2. Manage program and teaching supplies
  3. Personal development of teaching and management skills and background knowledge of subject areas
  4. Project work and other duties as assigned

 School Year (September - May)

  1. Teach middle school and high school age youth YD program curriculum which includes topics on Cesar Chavez, Sustainable Agricultural, Team Building & Ropes Course and Wilderness appreciation
  2. Collaborate with YD Manager and Intern for program preparations and to continually refine programs
  3. Support volunteers in program prep and mastery of curriculum
  4. Assist with organization, planning and logistics pre and post program

Summer (June - August)

  1. Supervise Teen Camp program and seasonal staff ensuring execution of a high quality program that uses Hidden Villa’s resources
  2. Coordinate with Camp Director to prepare for and implement summer staff training
  3. Develop engaging summer camp curriculum that incorporates Hidden Villa Summer Camp’s curriculum pillars
  4. Provide excellent customer service to clients

            

Preferred Skills:

  1. Ability to exercise judgment in a position of responsibility and to work without direct supervision
  2. 2 years teaching experience with teens in experiential educational field, summer camp experience
  3. Ability to be flexible and assume responsibility for group instruction with minimal preparation
  4. Valid California driver’s license, free of any major infractions
  5. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and comfortable entering pens with farm animals
  6. Spanish speaking not required but strongly preferred
  7. Ropes course or belay experience
  8. CPR & First Aid certified or willing to obtain
  9. Good communication and interpersonal skills with youth and adults
  10. Excellent organizational skills
  11. Ability to conduct self in a professional manner consistent with Hidden Villa values
  12. Strong risk management skills


Terms of Employment:

This is a seasonal position running from April 1, 2020 through August 15, 2020 with the potential of transitioning into an ongoing position at the conclusion of the season. From April 1, 2020 to May 22, 2020 this is a non-exempt position working an average of 32 hours/week. From May 22, 2020 through August 15, 2020 this is a non-exempt position working 40 hours/week. Compensation is $20 per hour.  After an initial training period, normal working hours are 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Work days will vary depending on scheduled programs. Typical work days are Monday through Friday with the occasional evening and weekend program.
