For the internship: in early to mid-April Alice Groh and buildings and equipment maintenance person Steve Brissette will be planting out 100 young blueberry bushes, 100 raspberries and 50 elderberry bushes for a eventual pick your own operation. We could use your help. In June and July Steve will be making hay on fields in our neighborhood and definitely needs help. In between, Alice needs help in her flower and vegetable gardens and Steve would probably be happy if you would take a turn at milking our one cow and feeding the chickens and/or were handy with farm machinery repair. If there is really nothing else to do (unlikely but possible) then you could always lend a hand at either milking, other animal chores or in the vegetable fields at the Temple-Wilton Community Farm, the CSA which Alice and her late husband Trauger and other farm partners started in 1986. Alice is in her late 60's and is a willing conversation partner for all things Biodynamic and from the work of Rudolf Steiner (Waldorf Education, amongst many other things.) Steve is mid-60's and is a grumpy New Englander who is not particularly interested in either of the two above-named topics but is good with building and machine maintenance, basic animal care, haying and vegetable production, especially in the greenhouse. If you have both an interest in and tolerance for this situation, please be in touch! Thanks, Alice
For the potential farmers: if we feel we can work together then this becomes a place that you can shape and sculpt as you wish. To be financially viable, it would very much help if one of the couple had an off the farm income. An interest in the activities in the Garden Room (based on Anthroposophy and Biodynamics) is probably the most reasonable fit and an interest in helping to evolve an eventual Biodynamic on-farm training program would be a plus. HOUSING is available in a 10 year old, 3 bedroom post and beam farmhouse, separate from Alice's home. Steve and his dogs live in the basement apartment of this farmhouse. Alice can and will help make the taking over of this place possible, given the right folks. I am open to all reasonable conversations in this direction.
