Company description Harvey's Market is an upscale butcher shop located in Union Market in N.E. Washington D.C.  We try to source from local farms around the several state area surrounding D.C. We try to carry cuts not found in supermarkets as well as local black angus  beef and Heritage breed pork.  We also operate a deli out of the shop.
Harvey's is a family business that has been in operation in this same building since 1971. Customer service and the best quality meats and poultry are what we strive for. Before opening as we are now, much time was spent going to farms to see how animals should be properly raised. We like to use "happy" animals for our shop.
Harvey's in located in the fastest growing quadrant in D.C. Harvey's  would like to make sure our new residents are able to get more healthy meat. Job description

Harvey's Market is an upscale butcher shop in Union Market in N.E. Washington.

We are looking for an experienced meat cutter with culinary skills for cutting meat and developing ready to cook items for our high end butcher shop. The applicant must have knowledge of cuts of meat far exceeding what one might find in a chain grocery store. A culinary background as well as a meat cutting background is a priority. The ability to deal with the public in an expert manner is required as we get many requests for special cuts. Fulfilling the customer's wants is our specialty. At times, the candidate will have to help on the front counter. Being close to the customers and building trust is a priority.

The candidate will help implement and maintain a selection of ready to cook foods for our busy customer base. A track record of producing this line would be helpful. keeping the showcase always looking neat and full is mandatory.

A knowledge of breaking animals and cuts of meat far exceeding chain stores are a must. Breaking occasional pigs and lamb are part of the job. Knowledge and handling of all equipment associated with a butcher shop is required.

With plans for possible future expansion, the candidate must have the skills to work smartly and independently. There is room for much future growth as the business grows. The goal is to hire a candidate who will be able to take over full control of the business.

Opening and closing independently at times will be necessary. Learning the cash register and inventory procedures is part of the job. Cleaning and supervising a staff will be required.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $18.00 to $24.00 /hour
