Job description

As a member of the Local Roots team, you will have an exclusive look into the workings of a small but mighty business; this will give you the chance to learn about regenerative farming practices, local distribution models, sustainable food systems, zero waste cooking techniques, and so much more. There are always diverse and engaging projects going on at Local Roots, and as a member of the team, you'll have the ability to impact our continued growth and exploration of the local food system.

 

This is a part-time role with hours ranging from 18-25 per week. In this position, you will manage the customer service email to answer questions, strategize campaigns to upsell members, and educate our community about local and sustainable food. You will work across multiple software platforms to make changes to orders, update customer information, route weekly home deliveries, issue refunds/credit, update inventory, make updates on our website backend, and prepare reports based on fulfillment issues to target areas for improvement in our supply chain. This position also allows you the opportunity to conduct outreach to potential neighborhood sites and other local partners in an effort to continue growing our reach throughout NYC.

This person in this role is critical in clearly articulating customer concerns with the rest of the Local Roots team so that we can continue to change and adapt our operations based on the feedback we receive.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage all customer service communications
  • Serve as a liaison between the customers, office team, and warehouse team
  • Review weekly Market Reports to identify and solve problems
  • Update customer orders using the website backend (Shopify) and our custom order processing platform
  • Manage website edits such as inventory, product descriptions, and farmer/purveyor bios
  • Communicate clearly with the Local Roots Team at all times, voicing insights that emerge from customer communications
  • Use our routing system to route deliveries for the week and schedule drivers
  • Communicate with customers in a way that helps educate them on topics of local food, sustainability, and cooking
  • Represent Local Roots as a thoughtful and passionate advocate for local farmers and fellow New Yorkers

 

Qualifications — Required

  • 1-2 years experience with customer service or equivalent role
  • Skilled in Google Suite
  • Willing and able to learn to use new software platforms
  • Strong and clear writing skills
  • Ability to diffuse high tension situations and offer creative solutions to problems
  • Ability to communicate trends in customer service and offer systematic changes
  • Extreme attention to detail and ability to remain organized
  • Basic understanding and enthusiasm for home cooking and farm-to-table eating

 

Qualifications — Preferred

  • Self-starter, a supportive team member
  • Ability to work independently and remain productivity 
  • Superior communication and listening skills
  • Prior experience working independently as well as with a small team
  • Experience with platforms such as Shopify, Intercom, Google Sheets
  • Knowledge and passion for food, cooking, and/or sustainability
