Oregon Agricultural Trust (OAT) is a statewide land trust that partners with farmers and ranchers to protect agricultural lands for the benefit of Oregon’s economy, communities, and landscapes.  We work collaboratively with regional and statewide partners to hold agricultural easements and ag land in fee title, with a focus on 4 priority geographies: central and south Willamette Valley, the Columbia River Gorge, the north coast, and southeastern Oregon.  We also partner with regional leaders to:

  • educate farmers, ranchers, service providers, and the public about preserving and passing on agricultural land;
  • increase the capacity of partner organizations to preserve agricultural land for production; and
  • advocate for programs and incentives that support agricultural land preservation.
Job description

Oregon Agricultural Trust (OAT) seeks an experienced, emotionally intelligent, visionary, action-oriented Development Manger to create and build our donor engagement program. Job responsibilities include: planning and measuring fundraising success, discovering and engaging supporters of OAT’s work, building support through compelling storytelling, and organizing fundraising events and educational opportunities.
 

Location: OAT’s office is in Salem, but staff work remotely with weekly meetings in the Portland area.

 

Goal 1 - Plan strategically for donor engagement, track success, and make informed adjustments.  Outcomes:

  • A long-term fundraising plan is in place that aligns with all other OAT plans.
  • Digital and print materials for why, what, and how to donate to OAT are developed and kept up-to-date.
  • Ensure that all donations and donors are tracked in Little Green Light.
  • A Board Fundraising Committee is established and engaged 3-4 times per year.
  • Each Board member has and follows personal action plans for their fundraising efforts, including specific give-get goals.

 

Goal 2 - Supporters are discovered, engaged in OAT's mission and work, and graciously thanked.  Outcomes:

  • Personal relationships are cultivated by Board and staff with 200 potential donors,
  • 3-year goal to build a 100-person “Founders’ Circle” of major donors starting at $1,000.
  • Board and staff feel they have the training and resources they need to have productive conversations at any stage of relationship building.
  • Donors at all levels feel appreciated and recognized for their support.

 

Goal 3 - Potential donors are moved to support OAT's mission at ever-increasing levels as a result of personally compelling and consistent storytelling.  Outcomes:

  • Coordinate with the Operations Manager on website and social media communications.
  • E-Newsletters are sent quarterly to a growing full listserv.
  • Major donors receive quarterly personalized communications relevant to their interests.

 

Goal 4 - Create and implement plans for fundraising events connect donors to OAT's mission and compel them to help OAT meet its development goals.  Outcomes:

  • 2 community-wide events per year - mid-year farm dinner and end of year event 
  • 2 appreciation events for large donors 
  • 2 appeals and mailers to the general public, EOY can be annual report to large donors.
  • 2 House parties hosted by volunteers, and 2 matching contribution nights at businesses.

Experience Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to build, expand, and manage a development program. 
  • Solid relationship-based fundraising experience, with proven success in individual giving.
  • Success in building strong foundation and corporate partnerships.
  • Demonstrated experience organizing a variety of successful fundraising events.
  • Demonstrated experience with community outreach and communications.

Skills Requirements
