Rabble-Rouser Chocolate & Craft is a 100% employee-owned chocolate factory, cafe, and community hub located in the heart of downtown Montpelier, Vermont. We create luscious, national award-winning chocolate using top-quality cacao beans and return fair wages to the farmers who grow them. We distribute our famous Vermont Granola, chocolate bars, CBD confections, and other handcrafted delights to food coops and independent grocers across the country.
Originally an insult hurled at suffragettes and troublemakers, "Rabble-Rouser" describes our mission of tasteful social change. Chocolate is simply the engine that powers our greater goal: strengthening, nourishing, and supporting our communities through the unifying power of exceptional chocolate, art, craft, and culture.100% employee owned, we are working to fiercely rewire the status quo, creating a new culture of leisure, diversity, receptivity and humanity.
We believe that corporations’ bad behavior disproportionately hurts the most marginalized people in society — including people of color, people from working class backgrounds, women and LGBTQ people. We believe that these communities must be centered in the work we do. Hence, we strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or who are members of other marginalized communities.
We have an unusual business model that aims to maximize the autonomy and natural powers of all workers, as well as the long term stability of the organization. To that end, we avoid full time administrators, marketers, executives or managers and instead, all workers and owners spend at least half of their time in the making, wrapping or serving of our artisan food and craft goods.
Our workplace environment is warm, inclusive, productive and sometimes irreverent. We expect everyone to do their best, to be truly connected to their work, and to communicate well with others. In exchange, we offer equal profit sharing among all owners, an educational 2-year track to ownership eligibility for all workers, and a "Euro-style" vacation benefit designed to encourage the personal, individual development of long term teammates. We seek the involvement of those interested in participating in the organization as slow-buy-in worker owners.
What is required is NOT a large financial infusion, but rather a willingness to adopt knowledge, skills and accountability to be a helpful partner. Ideal candidates may never have owned a business but are interested in doing so!
Applicants that genuinely enjoy satisfying others need apply. Includes making excellent espresso, dazzling customers with our world-class confections case, and efficiently wrapping chocolate products during the in-betweens. At Rabble-Rouser we emphasize authentic service with deep love, making every customer feel welcome in our space. We are seeking a candidate who can juggle a multitude of tasks and become knowledgeable in a wide array of products. Our elaborate offerings include coffee drinks, cafe fare, house-made chocolate and confections, CBD products, local art, handcrafted goods and jewelry. Be a live storyteller about authentic goods.
