MX Morningstar Farm run by partners Max Morningstar and Maria Zordan, is a certified organic vegetable farm in its 8th year of operation. The farm, located outside of Hudson, New York specializes in high quality, diversified produce for its onsite farmstand, CSA, and wholesale operation.

The farm is currently 30 tillable acres, the majority of which is cropped in potatoes, sweet potatoes, storage roots, and winter squash. We believe that managing a farm in a holistic and balanced way improves the flavor and productivity of the food we grow, benefitting our community and society as a whole. We farm using sustainable practices designed to maintain and build the health of our land long into the future. 

We believe in comprehensive and balanced management that understands each part of a farm as integral to the whole. Our holistic practices extend beyond the specifics of farming, encompassing not just the health of the land, but also to the health and wellness of the people who farm it. 

We are currently hiring crew members for the 2021 season! Crew members can expect to  work with the farm team in harvest, postharvest, and production tasks on our 30 acre farm from May-November. Qualified applicants will have some previous farm experience and a willingness to continue learning.    

Responsibilities:

• Work  closely with the pack-house and harvest managers to harvest daily orders
• Harvest efficiently, consistently, and quickly with an eye for quality
• Work in pack-house  as needed; washing produce, packing orders, maintaining clean facilities, and restocking supplies
• Clean harvest and inventory equipment, and general, daily  cleanup and organization  of vehicles, grounds  and supplies
• Participate in other non-harvest related farm work: greenhouse seeding, transplanting, post-harvest handling, and other field and production work

Schedule: 

• Full-time, Monday through Friday. 7am-5:30pm + flexibility on late days
• Half days every other Saturday, 7am-12pm
• Half days every Saturday beginning 9/12 and ending 10/31 for clear-out harvests
• Position available from early May through late November

Qualifications: 

• 1 season farming experience preferred 
• Ability to lift and carry heavy items; 50lbs+
• Strong communication skills and work ethic
• An eye for detail and the ability to multitask
• A positive attitude and willingness to work with farm owners to resolve issues

Compensation:

• $13-15/hr dependent upon experience
• Free produce from the farm
• 5 unpaid vacation days
• 20% discount at farm store

General Expectations:

• Our rural location is not accessible by public transportation. For this reason, reliable transportation to and from work is required for all candidates.
• All employees must have adequate work wear for  all weather
• Employees must work well with others and have positive attitude
