Job description

Apricot Lane Farms is a 214-acre organic and biodynamic farm located 40 miles north of Los Angeles and 20 miles east of Ventura in Moorpark, CA.  We are looking for a talented, creative, and experienced Communications Manager to join our team full time. The Communications Manager will work hand-in- hand with the Director of Media & Communications in propelling the Apricot Lane Farms story into the world in a meaningful way. The ideal candidate will be a big thinker, have exceptional writing, editing, and presentation skills, and be able to generate an impressive amount of well-crafted content, especially under tight deadlines.

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop content & collaborate with Communications Director on content strategy for all farm external and internal communication
  • Craft content and out-of-the-box campaigns for social media and other storytelling avenues in the farm’s voice and aesthetics that reflects a deep understanding of agroecology, regenerative farming, and the ALF brand
  • Create print & digital marketing and press materials (including press kits, one-sheets, etc.)
  • Field, research and manage media requests & coordination of interviews and on-farm press opportunities
  • Manage media partnerships, collaborations, and relationships
  • Manage planning, creation, and execution of marketing strategy for product launches, on-farm events, sales initiatives, etc.
  • Collaborate on communication around local and national regenerative policy initiatives
  • Lead farm tours with press, policymakers, and influencers
  • Work across departments to create and maintain a clear internal and external communication program
  • Provide editorial support for important internal company communications
  • Project manage and help guide creative process with vendors, including freelance graphic designers, photographers, artists, product designers, etc.
  • Manage department administrative coordination, expense reports, etc. ● Manage at least one direct report
Education and Experience
  • BA in communications, journalism, English, environmental studies, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in the field of media/marketing/branding, creative writing/journalism, and/or environmental studies w/ a focus in environmental communications
  • Background, education, or knowledge in regenerative farming, soil systems, agroecology, and/or environmental communications
  • Mature, refined instincts for what makes a good story, and how to communicate that effectively to our audience
  • Big thinker, with exceptional writing, editing, and presentation skills, and able to generate large amounts of well-crafted content, especially under tight deadlines
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work; strong time management and organizational skills
  • Able to take direction, as well as work independently
  • Flexible, able to navigate complexity and ambiguity, and creatively problem solve and manage multiple priorities
  • Management or team/department leadership skills and experience
  • Team player and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft and Google Suites. Proficiency in Adobe In-Design and/or Photoshop is ideal.

Schedule

  • Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm (~1 day/week 6:30a–3:00p to work with agricultural teams)
