Curio Spice Co. is a certified B Corp(R) dedicated to finding unique, organic spices around the world, sourcing them responsibly and bringing them together in artful blends. We operate a brick and mortar store and kitchen in Cambridge, MA where we sell pure spices, spice blends, and spice accessories, as well as teach classes and hold events.  We aim to create an intense sensory and educational experience for people who visit our shop and to bring them closer to the communities of farmers around the world who cultivate these flavors.  Our products are sold directly to customers online, used by chefs, and sold at other retail stores across North America. We are an independent, woman-owned benefit corporation.

Job description

Come join a growing artisan spice company and help us make a positive impact in the world! We're looking for an energetic, food loving, outgoing team player to join Curio Spice Co here at our brick & mortar spice shop. Our shop recently re-opened to the public for the first time since closing in March 2020 due to the pandemic. We're excited to bring a new team member on board who has experience in customer-facing hospitality and/or service and who is passionate about working for a values-driven specialty food business. We offer an educational and supportive work environment, vibrant company culture, competitive wages and all the spices you could ever need. 

Requirements:

  • Availability to work Saturdays and Sundays
  • 2+ years in retail hospitality, food service or related industry
  • Ability to stand for up to 8 hours
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Flexibility with a variety of tasks
  • Ability to wear a mask for a full shift and abide by strict covid safety precautions
  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination by position start date

  • Knowledge of/interest in cooking a variety of global cuisines

    Key Job Responsibilities:

Greet and Assist Retail/Store Customers and Visitors (60%)
    • Greet and create a welcoming environment for all Curio customers upon arrival to the store
    • Share and explain Curio’s mission and values to customers
    • Educate and guide Curio’s customers through our spice offerings, house-made blends & tools
    • Operate POS; handle returns, exchanges, and gift wrapping
    • Answer the phone; assist customers and process/fill phone orders
    • Answer spice and cooking questions and provide a tour of the store and its contents
    • Assist with pickup order fulfillment

Assembly and Maintenance of Spice Products and Special Packaging (30%)
    • Pack and label spices
    • Organize and assemble gift sets
    • Assess back stock, communicate stock levels, and assist in maintaining inventory
    • Restock shelves, rotate product, maintain Curio shelf and display merchandising protocols

Miscellaneous Duties (10%)
    • Help maintain cleanliness & COVID safety in our shop by completing weekly assigned cleaning tasks
    • Provide back-up support where needed in all back and front office areas of operation
    • Participate in staff sensory training exercises and display in-depth knowledge of Curio products
     

    Our shop is located in North Cambridge, a 5 minute walk from the Davis Square T stop.
