Job description Malai is looking to hire a full time dedicated and professional Pastry Assistant to assist the Kitchen Manager with ice cream production, ingredient preparation, baking and cone making. This role will also perform washing and cleaning duties that are required in the kitchen. In addition to production, the Pastry Assistant’s responsibilities include assisting with inventory control, and performing the tasks in our deep clean schedule. To be successful as a Pastry Assistant, you should exercise exceptional time management to ensure that all duties are completed in a timely manner. Additionally, an outstanding Pastry Assistant should be able to comply with all food health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities:
• Following and assisting Kitchen Manager in all areas of production, including ice cream, other desserts, cones and ingredient preparation
• Be comfortable to lead production a few days a week  
• Properly cleaning and sanitizing all food preparation areas according to established standards of hygiene.
• Washing and appropriately storing all cooking appliances, instruments, utensils, cutting boards, and dishes
• Assisting with the picking up, and unloading of delivered food supplies.
• Organizing and correctly storing food supplies.

Requirements:
• Proven experience assisting in kitchens
• NYC issued Food Handlers license
• Sound knowledge of food health and safety regulations
• The ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
• The ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• The ability work in a team
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Effective communication skills
• Weekend availability
