Company description Black Rock Orchard is a 100 acre sustainable orchard on the MD/PA border.  Our claim to fame is an original Mason Dixon Mile marker located near our plums.  We sell all of our tree fruit, berries and specialty greenhouse tomatoes at farmers markets in the DC metro area.  We use IPM growing practices. Job Description:  Farmers Market Worker
 Penn Quarter in Washington, DC, F street and 9th NW. (Thurs, 1:30 pm - 8 pm- pay is $140) or Mount Vernon Triangle SAT: 8:30-12:30 (pay for this market is $100)
General market worker position to help owner sell Black Rock Orchard fruit at the Penn Quarter Farmers Market in front of the Portrait Gallery in DC.    This job requires both physical ability and mental ability (math).  Worker must arrive on time to help unload the truck, put up tarps and set up fruit display.  After the selling period is over, the truck has to be reloaded. This job requires heavy lifting in a confined area.   

Challenges include working outside in all types of weather, assisting a wide range of customers and working quickly.  The job is physically challenging, dirty and very fast paced. Counting back change in a specific way is required (We will train). The tasks change frequently. Set up and closing (loading and unloading truck) happen very quickly. Consider your physical fitness before applying. 

Worker must bring drinking water and wear clothing suitable to working outside.  Be clear about any conflicts in your schedule when you apply.   We can find a substitute only rarely in cases of emergency or illness. 

Crates of fruit weigh about 25 lbs each.  Tarps weigh 60 pounds.

Workers cannot smoke or use tobacco in any form at market. 

No personal cell phone use at market (except for emergencies or taking photos of fruit).
 
During this period of Covid concern, workers may be required to wear suitable masks  and maintain precaution protocol as instructed.   Workers must be vaccinated.

The Penn Quarter farmers market is on Thurs: 1:30 pm - 8 pm.
Salary:  $140/market day

  • Falls Church, VA: Saturdays, 6 am- 1 pm.  This position lasts through November.
