Job description

The Kitchn is seeking a digital food editor and strategist to join the team as Associate Food Editor. This role is responsible for helping to grow the traffic and authority of Kitchn’s non-recipe service content — such as ingredient explainers, how-tos, technique education, and other non-recipe cooking resources — through creative, high-quality editorial and SEO expertise. The role works closely with the Senior Food Editor on Kitchn food editorial including conceiving, writing, editing, coordinating art, video production, and publication. 

Accountabilities

  • Help create and manage monthly and quarterly content calendars (both new and refreshed) to accomplish content strategy goals. 
  • Research, pitch, and write smart, engaging food content, including articles and roundups.
  • Work with Senior Food Editor in the development and writing of new content and refreshing and optimizing of existing content.
  • Work on special projects as needed. 
  • Work with Art and Video Teams to help produce stories with photography and videos.
  • Monitor and respond to post performance to produce better pitches and content.

Experience & Skills

  • 3-5 years digital editorial experience, with a focus on food 
  • Enthusiasm for and interest in food and cooking 
  • SEO experience and in interest in optimizing content for search
  • Experience with digital content management systems such as Wordpress 
  • Skilled reporter and writer who enjoys interviewing sources and thoroughly researching articles
  • A broad grasp of food content that goes beyond recipes to creative clever ways of inspiring and teaching a wide range of cooking audiences 
  • Strong, distinctive voice with an ability to write for Kitchn's audience
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and quickly adjust strategy and execution in the face of new information 
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented 
  • Preferable (although not required) tool experience: 
    • Web data sources such as Google Analytics, Parse.ly, and Search Console
    • SEO research tools such as SEMRush or similar 
    • Asana task management tools and workflows 
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
