Company description

Oggies is an artisan handheld pasty and pie bake shop, with all recipes unique to Oggies and all baked goods handmade with quality ingredients. We are a startup company, with our first location DeKalb Market Hall in Downtown Brooklyn and intensions to expand throughout New York City and beyond.

Our handheld pies include Cornish-style pasties and mini sweetie pies. With time this selection will expand to other handheld pies, such as pot pies, pie pops, and new types of hand pies.

We offer new varieties of sweet and savory pies regularly, for holidays (e.g., Valentine’s Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas), for the change of seasons (e.g., Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter collections) or just for the fun of it.

Job description

Role: Oggies is looking for a well-qualified Baker and Pie Maker, with responsibility for making, baking and creating pasties and pies and supervising baking assistants/counter servers during working hours. You will work closely with the owner to first learn the role, and then help grow the team and the business. The position will initially be part-time but has the strong possibility to expand to full time. This job is perfect for someone with pie making and baking experience, who wants to grow as the company grows.

Starting salary: $23-27/hr, plus tips (tips generally range between $4-8/hr), with significant potential to grow as the company grows.

Starting date: Early-to-mid November 2021

Responsibilities:

  • Make and bake pasties and pies
  • Develop new pasty and pie recipes regularly (seasonal, holidays, new products, etc.)
  • Supervise employees and operations of quick-serve bakery in a food hall environment
  • Assist in training staff in food preparation, safe handling, equipment operation, food safety and sanitation
  • Work with food production staff to coordinate off-site production requirements
  • Monitor quality and production efficiencies with time and temperature documentation
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Pie-making experience (sweet or savory)—highly desirable
  • Baking and bakery experience – highly desirable
  • Culinary, baking or pastry degree – preferred
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Desire to learn and grow with a new start-up company
  • Willing to apply necessary technology (e.g., kitchen equipment, POS suite, inventory management)
  • NYC Food Protection certificate – required prior to employment
  • Ability to stand for shift and lift heavy items (boxes, beverage containers, etc.)
  • Complete other tasks as needed
