Green Tractor Farm is a certified organic family farm growing mixed vegetables and cut-flowers in La Cienega, New Mexico (20 minutes south of Santa Fe). The farm operates on 3 acres. The farm serves local markets including: 2 weekly farmers markets, local natural food stores, a small CSA, a food hub and restaurants.

 

Green Tractor Farm is a fun and fast-paced place to work. The physical nature of the work is both challenging and rewarding. The farm crew at the height of the season typically consists of 3-5 people.

Job description

Green Tractor Farm is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic person for the Field Manager position for the 2022 season. The Field Manager is an essential part of our team and is expected to communicate well, keep an upbeat attitude, maintain a high capacity for work and at times, to operate autonomously. This position requires attention to detail and independent decision-making capabilities. Occasionally, the Field Manager is expected to stay outside of regular hours to ensure tasks are completed on time. Farm work is inherently physically demanding and requires someone who is motivated, has a good attitude, can tolerate working in all kinds of weather, and is able to lift at least 50 lbs at a time.

 

Green Tractor Farm has a well-developed plan and it is the Field Manager’s responsibility is to execute the plan and change where needed, ensuring the farm is on track for its goals. This requires experience in mixed vegetable production. The field manager will work closely with the overall Farm Manager.

 

Main responsibilities:

Crop Production- overseeing all aspects of vegetable production and some flower production. This includes: field preparation, planting, plant care and health, cultivation and fertility management, irrigation and harvest. There will be limited tractor and equipment operation. 

The job is part-time in February and March (20 hours/week), going up to Full-Time from April-December(40-60 hours/week). 

 

Skills and qualifications:

-At least 2 years experience on a production farm, including some management of employees.

-A valid drivers license.

-Ability to lift 50 lbs comfortably.

-Ability to commit to full season of work (February-December)
