Company description First Baptist JP/The Centre for Faith, Art & Justice started delivering meals and groceries in March 2020, and since we've moved over ONE MILLION pounds of food to people in JP and across the city of Boston.  Hundreds of volunteers and community members have generously shared their time, care, commitment, and resources with the FBCJP/Centre food distribution.  We hope to continue making even more of a positive impact on our community, delivering delicious home-cooked meals out of our commercial kitchen and distributing loads of fresh food through our new food pantry in Forest Hills.  We need your help! The Centre for Faith, Arts, and Justice at First Baptist Church in Jamaica Plain is seeking a Kitchen Coordinator/Chef for our community meals program.  The Centre’s food program includes six meal delivery times: Monday lunch and dinner, Wednesday lunch and dinner, Friday lunch, and Saturday lunch. First Baptist Church’s Crossroads Kitchen has been providing community meals since 2009.  Co-sponsored by the nonprofit Ethos, the program currently delivers about 700 meals per week to many seniors and low income residents of Jamaica Plain and surrounding neighborhoods.

Kitchen Coordinator/Chef responsibilities:

  • Prepare balanced, nutritious community meals, with the assistance of the program’s volunteer team
  • Manage kitchen within industry standards according to ServeSafe practices/requirements, insuring all food is properly prepared, dated and stored
  • Coordinate and receive food purchases and donation pick-ups with the Food Justice Coordinator and volunteer team
  • Provide written menus for all meals
  • Collaborate and share kitchen space with community caterers
  • Collaborate with church staff to oversee food preparation and service for special events
  • Represent FBCJP consistent with our church’s mission
  • Directly responsible to the Food Justice Coordinator, working in conjunction with pastor and church moderator
  • Other responsibilities as needed

Qualifications:

o Current ServeSafe certification

o Minimum of 2 years culinary/kitchen/food prep experience

o Demonstrated ability to coordinate and interact with kitchen volunteer teams and diverse

community

o Strong communication, collaborative interpersonal skills, ability to maintain confidentiality

o Ability to load/unload, transport and inventory food/supplies

o Must be available Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays for community meals

o Computer skills preferred

o CORI check required

Compensation $40,000/yr salary

Benefits: Free lunch and/or dinner, 4 weeks (20 work days) paid time off
