We are seeking a Managing Editor to oversee the daily operations of our editorial team. Working closely with our edit leads, as well as our commerce and branded content teams, you will help us produce and operate a robust editorial calendar. This position reports to the Chief Content Officer.

The Managing Editor role touches all parts of our organization, so we’re looking for someone with great interpersonal and communications skills who can work well with all kinds of people. Candidates with strong organizational capabilities, punctuality, a solutions-oriented mindset, and superior attention to detail will excel in the position. As a member of our leadership team, practicing our values of best-in-class storytelling, transparency, sustainability, and inclusiveness is a must.

While the Managing Editor will oversee many of our operational areas, such as processes, systems, and budget, we’re also looking for an editor with a personal passion for the food world. You should know how stories get produced from start to finish, and what makes a great story.

The Responsibilities:
  • Deputy for Chief Content Officer on all editorial operations management
  • Manage daily content production operations and ensure deadlines are met
  • Oversee the budget and manage the budget tracker
  • Create processes and management systems for new content and story updates
  • Oversee twice weekly email sends, working with Audience Development Manager on bigger strategy and testing opportunities
  • Oversee procedural onboarding for contributors, including contracts and invoicing
  • Work with the Design Director and Product Manager to manage the flow and prioritization of digital product requests, including day-to-day fixes and special projects
  • Own and facilitate quarterly and annual editorial planning meetings, guiding the team’s pitches by regularly flagging key seasonal moments and editorial calendar tentpoles
  • Liaise with syndication consultants and partners on platform performance and production
  • Act as the liaison between content and revenue teams to ensure both departments are operating in tandem and have transparency about upcoming campaigns and initiatives
  • Keep staff accountable to our high organizational standards, including training staff on editorial best practices, helping managers give feedback, and encouraging professional development

The Qualifications:

  • 2+ years in a senior editorial position at a publication
  • Experience managing internal editorial staff and a network of freelance contributors
  • Experience managing a budget
  • Enthusiasm and passion for Saveur’s editorial mission
  • Experience with AirTable, Google Sheets, WordPress, and Google Analytics is highly desired
  • Past professional leadership or management training is a plus
