Boutique Chelsea catering company seeks a motivated, organized, food forward team member for our Dispatcher/FOH Assistant Kitchen Manager position.

The Assistant Kitchen Manager is a master of all things event prep. They work directly under the company’s Executive Chef – and alongside the General Manager – to ensure the success of each and every event. Our ideal candidate would possess some food service and catering experience, as well as being extremely well-organized, a self started and ready to work in a team with a variety of people all working towards the same goal. This is an ideal opportunity to learn the catering business fully and thoroughly from the inside out. There is a lot to do and a lot to learn and, although it is demanding, this position can be fun and engaging for the right candidate.

 

On a daily basis, your job will include:

  • Packing out all in-house items (FOH and BOH) for events including, but not limited to, props, paper goods, cater ware, chefs coats, dry goods and food.
  • Responsible for delivery and pickup, as well as driving food and staff to and from events (and occasionally helping with preliminary set up).
  • Ensure that all company property brought to events is also returned from events. 
  • Keeping a small space well organized.
  • Inventory(paper goods, beverages, vessels, etc.) updated weekly so that the planning team knows what we have available in house.
  • Ordering and receiving kitchen goods, paper goods and handling any packages.
  • Light food prep (assembling to-go trays, making specialty syrups or coffee etc.)
  • Picking up specialty items for events. 
  • Facilitating communication between the event planners and chefs to ensure that events and pre-event prep run smoothly.

The following attributes are mandatory for this job:

  • You must have a valid drivers license, a clean driving record, and be comfortable driving/parking vans in NYC and the surrounding area. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • The ability to multitask and switch gears at a moment’s notice. You must be quick on your feet, have a sense of urgency, and know how to prioritize.
  • You must be a great communicator. In our business, every part of the chain is a means to the end – the event – and your job is to keep things from falling through the cracks.
  • Adaptability when engaging with many different types of people. Your coworkers will be event planners, chefs, cooks, and dishwashers, and you will also interact with delivery people and high profile clients.
  • A self-starter who doesn’t mind working on their own. Some parts of this job are solitary; the ideal candidate needs to be able to transition seamlessly between interacting with our event planners and clients to working alone on daily tasks. 
  • The ability and willingness to work some early mornings, occasional late nights and some weekends. You must be available, within reason,  for last minute tasks and events. 
  • Knowledge of email programs, and Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must own your own mobile phone and be proficient with texting and emailing from your phone.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. 
  • Knowledge of Spanish is a plus but not a requirement.
