Position Overview

 

Using advanced knowledge and strategies related to learning skills for students, and applying specialized expertise, this position has responsibility for enhancing agri-food systems education. The Educational Programs Director develops and oversees undergraduate and graduate fellowship programs, community-based participatory research programs, and bridge programs aimed at increasing access to agri-food systems education at UC Berkeley.

Responsibilities

 

  • Utilizing specialized expertise, leads Berkeley Food Institute's educational programs.
  • Develops and presents programs to students to enhance their learning capabilities in groups, or 1 on 1, on food systems topics.

 

  • These include extracurricular programs like undergraduate and graduate fellowship programs, community-based participatory research programs, and bridge programs aimed at increasing access to agri-food systems education at UC Berkeley.

 

  • Applies knowledge and training in educational equity to ensure that agri-food systems education at UC Berkeley is welcoming, relevant and culturally appropriate to our diverse student population.
  • Contributes curricular expertise and program management to programs such as the Food Systems Minor and Graduate Certificate in Food Systems.
  • Designs, develops, implements, and delivers professional development opportunities for instructors in agrifood systems education to enhance the learning and teaching process for students.
  • Trains and provides guidance to undergraduate and graduate students and staff who facilitate peer-to-peer educational programs.

 

  • This includes but is not limited to career and fellowship programs.

 

  • Collaborates with BFI communications and other program staff to develop and execute comprehensive outreach for the Institute's educational programs.
  • Develops evaluative tools and methodologies to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services.
  • Shares data on program effectiveness to ensure program transparency and regulatory compliance.
  • Contributes to organizational development and fund development related to BFI's education programs.
  • Establishes and maintains partnerships with departments, units, and external partners on outreach, orientation, experiential learning, academic strategy, enrichment workshops, community building events, and other activities.
  • Maintains on-and-off campus partnerships in service of the Food Systems Minor and Graduate Certificate in Food Systems.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Knowledge in designing and implementing learning and pedagogical models.
  • Knowledge of strategies in critical thinking, reading, writing, note taking, test taking, time management, and goal setting.
  • Interpersonal skills, including cultural competency and humility to work across languages, cultures, styles, and opinions in a diverse public university context and produce results.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations.
  • Skills in judgment and decision-making.
  • Advanced knowledge on research and theoretical models that influence the application and delivery of agri-food systems education in higher education.
  • Supervisory skills to hire, train, and provide coaching and guidance to student workers and student interns.
  • Demonstrated experience working for equity and justice in the food system and the desire to engage learners to think about their role in changing the food system.

 

Education/Training:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in agri-food systems education and / or equivalent experience / training.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Advanced knowledge in theoretical concepts of adult learning.
  • Knowledge on methodologies to enhance student success.
  • Advanced knowledge of specific learning styles, linguistic issues.
  • Knowledge of how learning skills issues apply to a research institution.
  • Master's or doctorate in agri-food systems education and/or equivalent experience/training.

 

Salary & Benefits

 

This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $85,000.00 - $95,000.00.

Other Information

 

This is 12-month, full-time (40 hours/week), Contract appointment with the opportunity for renewal. A hybrid work arrangement is available for this position.
