Job description

Opportunity: Seasonal Crops Crew Member

Location: Stone Barns Center in Pocantico Hills, NY

Supervisor: Seed Lab Director; Field/Greenhouse Manager

Classification: Temporary, Full-time/Non-exempt

Frequency of Pay: Bi-weekly

Rate: From $16-$18 per hour

Benefits: Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, a 401k plan, paid time off, sick time, and discounted farm products

Schedule: 5 days/week (Monday - Friday) from July/August - November 2022; Harvest, inventory & processing produce from approximately 7:30am - 1pm as well as clean up & general farm support from approximately 2 - 4:30pm; Overtime with manager’s approval

 
The Seasonal Crops Crew Member is a supporting role for the field and greenhouse operations. The Seasonal Crops Crew Member is responsible for supporting the Crops team in the harvest, processing and organizing for sale of all produce coming in from the Crops production areas. They will support and work closely with the Crops team to keep harvest data updated. They will also support all other functions of the crops operation including, but not limited to planting/seeding, crop maintenance, irrigation and harvest on an as needed basis. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Support wash and pack operations for all harvest and inventory processing
  • Adhere to wash and pack station and cold/dry storage SOPs, including but not limited to food safety protocols
  • Support vegetable cold/dry storage inventory 
  • Support the Crops team in all harvest and production activities associated with the field and greenhouse production systems

 

Physical Demands

This is a highly physical role. While performing these job duties, the employee is regularly required to see and reach. The employee is regularly required to sit, walk, and stand for long periods of time (e.g., up to 8 hours or longer) and to don appropriate personal protective equipment in response to COVID-19, including face coverings. The employee is required to use dominant hand coordination for simple grasping, pushing/pulling, and fine manipulation. The employee is also required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, bend, squat, kneel, and reach above shoulder level. The employee may be exposed to extreme temperatures, dust, dampness, moving machinery, food allergens, and cleaning agents. Due to the nature of the farming industry, the employee may be required to work longer hours and varying schedules to reflect the business needs, which may include overtime, weekends, and holidays. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.   • Previous farming experience is valued, but not required
  • Willing to learn and/or have experience with vegetable and flower growing at a production scale
  • Willing to learn and use new technologies in the field
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Willing to work collaboratively and engage in effective communication with the team
