Company description Gwenyn Hill is a 430 acre certified organic farm that focuses on food crops, from tree fruit and grapes, to summer produce and heritage grains. We use our sheep and cattle to revitalize our soils and to make use of our steep perennial pastures. Our very diverse organic farm has one GM and three managers who develop and oversee their areas of expertise; Produce, Land and Livestock, and Perennial Fruits (Orchard and Vineyard). Our Orchard and Vineyard Manager is leaving and we are in search of someone experienced in organic and/or IPM fruit production. This is a unique, not-to-be-missed opportunity for someone who loves growing perennial fruits and who wants to work where there is potential for growth, the freedom to think outside the box, the chance to make a difference and be rewarded for excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Care of tree fruit and vineyard, including pest management, orchard floor management, pruning and training.
  • Manage harvest
  • Manage irrigation
  • Procure allowable fertility inputs and manage fruit based on soil or tissue samples
  • Contribute to planning of additional fruit plantings
  • Contribute to acquisition of appropriate technology and equipment
  • Coordinate with other farm personnel for jobs requiring small teams.
  • Train and supervise seasonal farm staff while working in the orchard or vineyard.
  • Contribute to farm educational events.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate record-keeping systems to comply with organic certification requirements.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment.

Requirements
  • Fluency in English
  • Valid driver license
  • Legal work status
  • Ability to routinely lift 40 lbs.

Desired Skills and Experience
  • Knowledge of IPM and organic orchard and vineyard practices
  • Ability to operate tractors, mowers, sprayers and tractor mounted implements safely.
  • Willingness to become a licensed pesticide applicator.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication.
  • Competence with spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Experience training and supervising others.
