Company description Urban Adamah is an educational farm and community center in Berkeley, California that integrates the practices of Jewish tradition, mindfulness, sustainable agriculture, and social justice to build loving, just, and sustainable communities. We provide training programs, educational workshops, and community celebrations for more than 10,000 visitors annually. Job description The Youth & Family Programs (YFP) Manager is responsible for the education and public engagement of Urban Adamah’s youth and families in a variety of ways. This includes overseeing and ensuring the success of existing summer and winter camps, family programming, and youth retreats. The Manager’s focus is on sustaining relationships with camp families throughout the year and creating access points for new YFP participants to feel welcomed on the farm.

The YFP Manager supervises 15 – 20 summer camp staff June – August, manages program-specific and seasonal staff, and designs content and curriculum as needed.

CAMP URBAN ADAMAH
Camp offers campers a taste of Jewish values and meaning, and organic farm life, through fun and dynamic hands-on programs at Urban Adamah.  The Youth & Family Programs Manager will:
  • Camp Preparation
    • Hiring, training, and managing camp staff
    • Revising the CIT and Internship program
    • Partnering with the Marketing Manager to ensure proper camp marketing and registration
    • Designing camp programming that is dynamic and inquiry based while also ensuring a safe environment for participants
  • During Camp
    • Liaising with parents and other stakeholders to address individual camper needs with support from the YFP Director
    • Tracking and working within the camp budget with assistance and support from the YFP Director
    • Managing camp logistics and administration with support from the YFP Associate and summer support staff    
  • Post Camp
    • Ensuring ongoing / year-round engagement with camp families 
    • Surveying camp families at the end of each session to assess program strengths and growth areas
    • Surveying camp families throughout the year, on a quarterly basis, to learn their programmatic interests, likelihood to return to and recommend camp to others, etc.

RETREATS
The Youth & Family Programs Manager will...

  • Lead outreach, develop content, manage contracting and logistics, and serve as the primary leader of 4 – 6 on-site, multi-day, youth retreats annually (with additional retreat staff assisting with and/or leading programming)
  • Remain in contact with partnering Jewish day schools and synagogue religious school programs, as needed, with the assistance and support from the YFP Director and Associate
  • Track and work within the retreat program budget with assistance and support from the YFP Director
  • Provide input on marketing materials and strategies as requested by the YFP Director
  • Assist with recruitment, hiring, and necessary training of retreat staff

FAMILY PROGRAMS

SCHEDULE
The YFP Manager will need to work on evenings and weekends and, on occasion, more than 40 hours per week to fulfill the duties of the position. When not on site facilitating a program, the general hours of employment are 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday – Friday. The YFP Manager is expected to be on site at minimum of 15 minutes before camp staff arrive each day. The Manager will supervise the after-camp coordinator and is often required to stay to speak with families and support campers. Because summer camp requires an excess of 40 hours a week when in session, we work to arrange additional time off at the end of the season.

This position will be initially supervised by the Senior Director of Programs & Innovation, Allegra Guarino with plans to transition over to the Youth & Family Programs Director in early 2023.
