Carversville Farm Foundation (CFF) is a non-profit farm that combines ecological regeneration and organic agricultural production to serve our environment as well as our community. We are a diversified farm with intensive cover cropping, grazing, hay, vegetable, poultry, beef and mushroom production.  We currently distribute our farm products to soup kitchens and food pantries in the greater Philadelphia area to help improve access to wholesome, locally grown foods. Position: Vegetable Production Farmer

Reports to: Farm Manager

Compensation: $16 - $18 per hour, based on experience

Benefits: Health, dental and vision, PTO, housing possibly available

Schedule: 5 days per week, 40 - 50 hours per week, year round

About the position:

The vegetable production farmer will join a dedicated team of farmers to participate in raising vegetables from seed to harvest. We have over 12 acres in production, two high tunnels for year round production and a new wash and packing facility. We use cultivating tractors, water wheel transplanters, root harvesters and other equipment that helps us remain efficient.  Cover cropping, soil tests and a fertility program helps keep our soils healthy and balanced. We are striving to create the most healthful food we can donate to those in need.

Requirements

• 2 years vegetable production experience
• Demonstrate record keeping ability
• Tractor experience
• Proficient at harvesting, weeding and planting

• Ability to delegate responsibilities
• Excellent record keeping skills

• Ability to handle product from harvest to packaging while maintaining food safety (FSMA) standards

Responsibilities

Working with our team of apprentices and staff to execute daily tasks including:

• Greenhouse watering and seeding, transplanting, crop maintenance
• Pest and disease management
• Implement and maintain irrigation
• Harvest vegetables according to farm’s standards
• Operate and maintain farm equipment as needed
• Contribute to a safe and orderly working environment
• Support record keeping
