Our outstanding faculty includes globally recognized leaders in their fields. And education and outreach are mission critical for us. Job description

The School of Earth & Environment seeks to hire two full-time Lecturers or Senior Lecturers with expertise in regenerative food systems to support the development of our forthcoming bachelor’s degree program in Regenerative Food Systems, which will focus on innovation, equity, and sustainability practices for growing, processing, and distributing responsibly produced, nutrient dense food. This is a non-tenure-track teaching position to begin July 1st, 2023. Initial work will focus on the development and delivery of this new academic program, in addition to teaching core courses in the Regenerative Food Systems (RFS) curriculum.

The RFS curriculum is grounded in teaching, innovation, and building community around growing of food regeneratively, the necessary transformation of system-wide processes and infrastructure governed by policies to support feeding a population equitably, and how to foster this effectively within a local and regional level.  This will be further enhanced with on-and-off-site learning opportunities, field trips, and externships.  Students will be prepared for a broad range of careers to facilitate healthy, affordable, and regeneratively produced food that is equitably accessible to all eaters.  RFS students will take a range of courses both academic and experiential.

As part of an experiential learning series, RFS students will prepare regenerative growing conditions through soil revitalization efforts for sustainably cultivated foods through land and greenhouse farming as well as harvesting, processing, and preparing/cooking foods.  These experiences will be part of a series of courses called the Food Village.  Also, RFS students will connect, engage, and contribute to the local/regional/national food system through a built and fostered, community network with established regenerative food systems partnerships.

These positions will have responsibility for the following areas.

  • Food Village: effective delivery of the Food Village courses, regenerative food growing operations, and culinary preparations as part of the RFS student's experiential learning.
  • Outreach Center and Partnership: leading the establishment of the food systems partnerships, community outreach, and student engagement and externships in addition to teaching regional food systems field survey and food issues courses.

These positions will be offered as a renewable, multi-year 12-month contract with benefits. Additionally, the Lecturer will teach during the fall, spring, and summer semesters, and will be expected to contribute to the academic life of the school and university, developing courses and curricula, participating in faculty governance, and engaging in a broad range of service activities. Successful candidates will have a background that blends both academic and professional experience working within regenerative agriculture that supports resilient and regenerative food systems.  We welcome applications from candidates with a broad range of backgrounds, including experience in regenerative farming, sustainable agricultural production, supporting community food security, culinary arts, food systems planning, community outreach, external partnership development, and/or food assurance and food security governance.

The School of Earth & Environment includes the departments of Environmental Science, Geology, and Geography, Planning, & Sustainability and is closely associated with the Edelman Fossil Park & Museum. Visit earth.rowan.edu to learn more. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to join an energetic faculty within the School, and across colleges and schools at Rowan University, committed to providing students with an outstanding education, maintaining traditions of collegiality, civic engagement, and community outreach.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher in a discipline relevant to regenerative food systems with relevant professional experience.

  • Irrespective of field, a general knowledge of the climate and biodiversity crises and a deep commitment to making positive change towards a sustainable Anthropocene.
  • A dedication to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the school, university, and broader community.
