Company description Silvery Moon Creamery at Smiling Hill Farm has been crafting artisan cheese and yogurt since 2003. We use the milk from Smiling Hill Farm and other Maine dairies within 30 miles. Some of our products have received awards in cheese competitions from the American Cheese Society, The Big E, and the Maine Cheese Guild. Job description We want you to be part of our small team of cheesemakers. Our job includes everything from vat pasteurizing milk to making cheese to affinage to filling orders to direct customer contact. And of course tasting every batch. The work is physically demanding as we are on our feet all day, carrying up to 50lb, sometimes up and down stairs. And not to forget the never ending dish washing and cleaning. Our portfolio ranges from Cream Cheese, fresh molded cheese, to mold ripened cheese and aged cheese. We also make yogurt, including some Maine flavors. Our customer base has been growing and we need another cheesemaker to help us meet demand. We work hard, and we have fun along the way.

Responsibilities include:
  • vat pasteurizing milk,
  • making cheese and yogurt,
  • taking care of aging and ripening cheese,
  • following GMP and food safety rules,
  • record keeping,
  • taking and filling orders,
  • communicating with wholesale and retail customers,
  • entering production data into the computer,
  • using Quickbooks.

Requirements include:
  • ability to work in a team and also independently,
  • ability to professionally communicate in writing and orally,
  • ability to stand and work for an entire shift,
  • ability to work in hot and humid environments as well as cool aging rooms and walk in cooler,
  • curiosity about cheese and dairy, and willingness to learn,
  • ability to follow oral and written instructions,
  • attention to detail,
  • ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel computer programs.
Prior experience in food production, dairy, or cheese making is a plus. We will train the right candidate.
The position is full time and comes with benefits, including free dairy products and merchandise. Compensation this position is : hourly, $15-20/hr Application instructions
