Camp Counselors

Seasonal full time positions

6/26 to 8/18, with several orientation / training dates in mid-June. 

Monday thru Friday, 9am - 4pm (35 hours per week). 

 

Junior Farmers’ Camp takes place on the beautiful 25 acres of Cropsey Community Farm. This slice of nature in New City, NY gives campers a true hands-on outdoors and farm experience.  Counselors spend each day guiding campers through farm & garden activities, such as: planting and harvests, nature walks to observe our resident creatures, identifying insects and plants, and learning farm animal chores. 

 

Our wonderful camp counselors are the true spirit of Junior Farmers’ Camp. Counselors show leadership qualities, responsibility, and a love of  by being actively involved in campers’ play-based learning and are expected to enthusiastically participate. This is a working farm with all daily activities involved with agriculture, and camp counselors are the front line for ensuring campers have an exciting and safe experience!

 

Camp counselors work with children ages 5 to 13. There are 2 main groups, Lower Camp (ages 5-8) and Upper Camp (ages 9-13). Counselors may be matched with one group for the duration or camp, or may work with both.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct day-to-day activities with campers in designated group 
  • Communicate clearly with camp director, head counselors, and fellow group counselors
  • Maintain accurate records, including sign-in/-out attendance sheets and incident reports 
  • Treat all campers and staff members with respect
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, & safety at camp
  • Understand needs of individual campers, including but not limited to behavioral needs and food / environmental allergies 
 

Ideal Skills & Qualifications 

  • Experience working with children is preferred. 
  • Training in farm safety and first aid will be provided. 
  • Enthusiasm for gardening, the outdoors, and dirt a MUST!
