Function
- Implement strategic goals and objectives of the organization.
- Enable Board to fulfill its governance function.
- Give direction and leadership toward the achievement of the organization’s philosophy, mission, strategy and its annual goals and objectives.
Reports to: Wyoming Food Coalition - Board of Directors
Location: Must be a resident of Wyoming while fulfilling the position; however, the work may be completed remotely in state
Major functions/accountabilities:
1. Board administration and support: support operation and administration of the Board by advising and informing Board members, interfacing between Board and staff, and support Board’s evaluation and chief executive. Specific responsibilities include:
o Complete annual review of existing strategic plan with board and develop high-level operational plan with key performance indicators, milestones, and timelines
o Assist working groups with developing group-level strategic goals
o Regularly attend working group meetings, provide input on behalf of the Board and other groups, advise groups on strategic-level decisions
o Support Board task forces as necessary
2. Program, product, and service delivery: oversees design, marketing, promotion, delivery of quality programs, products, and services provided by the organization.
o Develop and implement member recruitment and retention plan
o Facilitate inter-working-group collaboration
o Work with Strategic Communications working group to develop/distribute ongoing WFC communication materials (e.g. social media posts, website updates, newsletters, etc.). While VISTA support is available (through end of 2022), VISTA volunteer will have primary responsibility for development/distribution of materials; once VISTA support is no longer available, Executive Director will assume primary responsibility for developing/distributing materials.
o Manage general inquiries on behalf of the WFC
3. Financial, tax, risk and facilities management: Recommends yearly budget for Board approval and prudently manages organization’s resources within those budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations.
o Work with Board Treasurer to develop annual budget for Board approval
o Work with Board Treasurer to operate within approved budget
o Work with Board members to develop and implement long-term financial sustainability plan
4. Human resource management: Effectively manages the human resources of the organization according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that fully
conform to current laws and regulations.
o Work with VISTA volunteer(s) to fulfill their position in support of the WFC mission
5. Community and Public Relations: Assures the organization and its mission, programs, products, and services are consistently presented in strong, positive image to the relevant stakeholders.
o Speak on behalf of the WFC during key outreach opportunities (e.g. legislative testimony, public comment opportunities on pertinent topics, etc.)
o Foster connections with key stakeholders (e.g. other food system organizations, producer representation organizations, etc.) to ensure the WFC is included in pertinent statewide topics
6. Fundraising: Oversees fundraising planning and implementation, including identifying resource requirements, researching funding sources, establishing
strategies to approach funders, grant writing, submitting proposals and administrating funding records and documentation.
o Work with Board members to identify and pursue funding opportunities for core operations
o Lead efforts to identify funding opportunities for core operations, then support Board member(s) charged with pursuing identified opportunities
o Provide support to working groups in pursuing project-specific funding opportunities
o Oversee the financial health of the WFC, including efforts to secure future funding
Qualifications
- Significant and proven management skills developed through several years in senior management positions
- Demonstrates leadership ability in strategizing and relationship building
- Demonstrates effectiveness and lead experience in fund development
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and grant writing
- Strong conflict resolution and decision making skills
- Understanding of non-profits and experience working with boards of directors and volunteers
- Experience managing organizational budgets
- Computer literate
