Company description Sweet Roots Farm is a diverse Organic vegetable and berry farm in Charlotte, VT. The farm has been in operation for almost 40 years as the Charlotte Berry Farm. We have 5 acres of blueberries, a few acres of blackberries and black raspberries and about 2 acres of Organic vegetables, flowers and herbs. We are open for pick-your-own blueberries seasonally and have a retail Market at the farm where we feature our farm grown crops, items from local creators, growers and producers and products we simply love. Sweet Roots is searching for a full-time, seasonal Assistant Market Manager/Produce Coordinator to help in daily operations of our on-farm, retail Market and work in the field.  

Retail Responsibilities

  • Create beautiful, seasonal, dynamic displays (in/outside) featuring market goods including a array of fresh produce
  • Complete transactions quickly and efficiently using POS system 
  • Welcome community for seasonal Pick Your Own blueberries and sunflowers
  • Receive deliveries of inventory - price, merchandise and restock 
  • Open and close register and Market independently
  • Maintain a clean and welcoming environment inside and outside of the Market
  • Maintain a sanitary and food safe environment on the market floor and in storage areas
  • Strive to build personal and employee knowledge of all products in the Market
  • Help educate customers on seasonality and impact of supporting local businesses

Leadership/Produce Coordinator Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the farm owners, Harvest Manager and other leadership staff
  • Assist in creating and using systems
  • Assist with social media and other marketing campaigns
  • Delegate responsibilities to other employees as needed
  • Prioritize quality control of all fresh produce especially Sweet Roots grown items
  • Educate Market employees regarding Sweet Roots grown products, quality control and availability
  • Create communication tools to inform Market employees of Sweet Roots grown products and all fresh produce in the Market - storage needs, availability, quality control etc
  • Assist in ordering off-farm produce to compliment on farm offerings
  • Provide feedback to farm owners/Harvest Manager of  Sweet Roots grown items to influence production
  • Send weekly sales reports of Sweet Roots grown to Harvest Manager, owner and Market Manager
  • Work 1+ day in the field (seasonal fluctuation & based on need in either Market of Field)

Qualifications

  • Customer service experience; Leadership or management experience preferred but not required 
  • Experience & knowledge handling produce, foods, plants, and beverages
  • Knowledge and experience of local food system, agriculture, and food seasonality
  • Self-motivated and ability to motivate others 
  • Desire to interact with the public and create relationships
  • Ability to manage time efficiently  
  • Positive attitude, excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Proficient computer skills such as spreadsheets, Google documents, electronic communications. 
  • Ability to move quickly during peak hours; flexible and adaptable to quickly evolving systems  
  • Attention and passion for details and aesthetic  
  • Required to work one weekend day
