Based in Portland, Maine, and offering services statewide, Preble Street’s low-barrier, client-centered programs provide casework, housing, shelter, food, and other essential services to people in our community experiencing homelessness, hunger, and poverty, while advocating for long-term solutions to these problems.
Preble Street is seeking a full-time Volunteer Program Manager to lead the volunteer force and cultivate positive internal and external stakeholder relationships in support of the agency’s mission. Working across and collaboratively with Food Programs, Development, and social work teams, the Volunteer Program Manager performs and coordinates all administrative responsibilities for the volunteer program, including application processes and volunteer schedules; implements comprehensive volunteer orientation and onboarding; and provides ongoing support to volunteers and programs to ensure a positive volunteer experience.
The regular schedule for this full-time position is Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm with some evenings and weekends as required.
Qualifications include 3+ years of work experience in the nonprofit sector and an undergraduate degree in a relevant field of study, or a comparable combination of education and work experience likely to provide skills or ability to perform successfully in the position of Volunteer Program Manager.
Also required is experience working, leading, and managing with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; strong customer service orientation, with the ability to engage with staff, volunteers, and stakeholders and work collaboratively and professionally in a group environment; excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills; strong organizational skills; and a positive regard for individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty, and food insecurity.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position, with a pay rate of $26/hour. Generous paid time off, insurance, and retirement plan benefits include:
- 4 weeks (160 hours, accrued) vacation time, 12 days (96 hours, accrued) sick time, 16 hours personal time, 12 Paid Holidays
