Sprouts Chef Training is a 501c3 that equips youth to rise from hardship through culinary training and job placement.

Youth at Sprouts are paired with a chef mentor and wraparound program to develop the vocational skills needed to secure and maintain a culinary job. Graduates use these entry-level jobs to kickstart culinary careers, pay for education, or pursue new industries.

Job description

Team up with Bay Area/ NYC chefs and case Managers to equip youth to rise from hardship through culinary training and job placement. Your role will in large part be spent developing the roll-out of Sprouts Chef Training program on Stanford University Campus, and overseeing the Chef Training internships that take place in restaurants in San Francisco, Oakland, and NYC.

Chef Training Program Overview

We help Bay Area/ NYC youth experiencing hardship achieve stability and financial autonomy through life skills coaching and restaurant internships. Youth pair with chef mentors and case Managers to develop the skills needed to secure and maintain a culinary job. Since 2012, 106 youth have used their skills to get off the streets, pay for higher education, become chefs, access new professions, or support family members.

Your Role

As a Program Manager of Sprouts Chef Training Program, you will run our Bay Area/ NYC chef training program by working intimately with youth experiencing hardship, local mentor chefs, and youth life success organizations. You will recruit for, onboard, and guide Chef Training interns through their life success journey. You will serve as a mentor, life guide, and cheerleader for youth as they complete their restaurant internships and transition out of the program. You will capture the impact and improve the programming through data and survey collection. You will also have the opportunity to recruit new chefs and case Managers to partner with us!

You will enjoy autonomy as you work under the board’s visions and hand-in-hand with the Executive Manager and to make key decisions on the Chef Training strategic plan and impact goals. You will actively collaborate with team members including Sprouts’ Executive Manager.

Strong organizational skills; comfort with fast-past growth; team management skills; good written and verbal communication; strong comfort with technology, building systems, and scalability; interest in data collection; strong comfort with Google Drive; strong interpersonal skills; high energy; initiative; and ownership of tasks. 2+ year commitment to the role.

Sample Tasks:

  • Work closely with Chef Training partner restaurants and youth success organizations
  • Oversee and manage a chef training coordinator
  • Solicit new case management partners to keep Sprouts impact growing
  • Forge new and nurture ongoing relationships with case management partners and Chef mentors
  • Provide guidance and internship support to Chef Training interns 
  • Set up meeting with the Chef trainees and Sprouts writer to capture the inspiring stories of each youth that goes through the program 
  • Coordinate with Sprouts’ volunteer photographers to take photos of each CT intern at their host restaurant
  • Collect impact statistics with past and current Chef Training interns 
  • Work alongside popular chefs and restaurants to place Chef Training interns and monitor their progress
  • Work with team members to help coordinate virtual graduation events
  • Incorporate feedback from Sprouts Executive Manager and Sprouts board of advisors and Managers.


Locations and Hours

Work hours: 40 hours per week, remote or Bay Area/ NYC-based

  • Hours are flexible based on your preference and Chef Intern needs. 
  • Intern interviews, recruitment fairs, and restaurant stage check-ins require some flexibility. If local, you can choose to travel to restaurants, schools, nonprofit offices in San Francisco and East Bay.

Commitments and Contract Period

Starting Date Window: January 12

Preference for a hybrid model with appx. 2 site visits per week. 

The position can be performed entirely remotely

Compensation

  • $75,000-$100,000
  • Paid Lunch, Paid Holidays + 10 Paid Vacation Days 
  • $150 month remote stipend
