Job description

The organization seeks a part-time Procurement Fellow to support its Farmer Champion program. The Fellow will provide important outreach and data analysis to a growing network of “farm-to-table" businesses and institutions across the state. This is a hybrid position that requires the Fellow to work off-site at home, at the Georgia Organics office, and non-office locations for in-person meetings and events.

The Fellow reports to the Farmer Champion Manager. Travel to meetings and events will primarily be in and around the Atlanta metro area. Fellow candidates should reside in the Atlanta area.
 
 

RESPONSIBILITIES 
The Procurement Fellow reports directly to the Farmer Champion Manager and includes the following responsibilities: 

Data Collection 

  • Collecting invoices from Farmer Champions in the program 
  • Calculating Local Procurement percentage using the invoices 
  • Aggregate contact information of farms ready to sell to Farmer Champions 

Material Distribution 

  • Send Farmer Champion assets to program members  

Communications 

  • Writing two blog posts relating to Farmer Champion programming by the end of 2024 
  • Supporting with weekly Social Media content creation as needed 
  • Contacting the Farmer Champions for reminders of important dates, and coordinating as needed 

Event Support 

  • Support as needed in the planning/execution of the following events, including but not limited to: 
  • Farmer Champion Awards 
  • Buyer Farm Tour 
  • Attack of the Killer Tomato Festival 
  • 2025 Georgia Organics Regional Conference 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in community food systems, the food service industry, and/or farming 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Knowledge of and passion for local food systems, especially in the metro-Atlanta area 
  • Comfortable conducting outreach to and engaging diverse groups of people including food service professionals and farmers 
  • Self-motivated, hardworking, and dependable; ability to work independently and in a support role 
  • Experience working with the public and interacting with a diverse range of people 
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PPT) and data management 
  • A commitment to sustainability and the environment 
  • A friendly demeanor and sense of humor 
  • Detail-oriented and well-organized; strong administrative skills 

Preferred but not Required 

  • Familiarity with procurement, especially in restaurants, and other food service communities 
  • Familiarity with the local food community of Georgia, especially the metro-Atlanta area 
  • Comfortable with Asana project management 
  • Passion for spreadsheets
