Job description

As an Event Chef, you'll lead and/or support our corporate adult (and occasionally youth) cooking classes, creating an inclusive and lively atmosphere fueled by a shared passion for food. This role provides an exciting and unique opportunity to share your kitchen expertise, engaging with guests to create memorable culinary experiences and demonstrate your leadership skills. We're looking for individuals with the confidence to entertain and teach, a proactive and hands-on approach, along with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

This part-time position offers flexible shifts based when events book, primarily on weekday evenings or weekend days in our SF studio. We require the commitment of working 0-4 events that book on one designated weekend a month.

Responsibilities

On-Site Adult Events:

  • Assist or lead corporate team-building classes, ranging from 10 to 80 participants with various structures. Prepare, set up, support the chef, and assist with cleanup.
  • Lead Chefs will coordinate all preparatory activities, manage the kitchen team, and ensure exceptional client experiences. This encompasses overseeing the execution of guests' dishes, ensuring safety, managing food sensitivities and side orders, maintaining a motivated kitchen team, and, above all, providing entertaining and informative guidance to the guests! Success in this role requires a strong understanding of food, a passion for hosting, and the ability to delegate effectively.

On-Site Youth Classes & Parties:

  • Assist with kids' culinary birthday parties on weekends. Lead or assist in teen culinary classes during the summer, working at least one designated weekend a month.
  • Same responsibilities as lead chefs for on-site adult events.

Skills + Experience Required

  • Professional culinary training or experience working in the food industry is required.  We welcome qualified chefs, instructors and students from culinary schools, personal chefs, and retired food service professionals.
  • Comfortability working with various age groups (ages 4-17 and adults!)
  • Experience hosting and entertaining groups of 10-40 guests.
  • Proficiency in Google office suite and scheduling apps.
  • Can reliable travel to/from event shifts taking place in San Francisco.
  • Completion of Live Scan, current First Aid/CPR certificate, and COVID-19 vaccination required upon hire.

You…

  • Have a passion for culinary arts and enjoy teaching diverse skill levels.
  • Can call yourself a true ‘host/ess”, thriving in front of people.
  • Possess professional kitchen experience or culinary education.
  • Are inclusive, encouraging, and maintain an "always learning" mindset.
  • Demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and multitasking abilities.
  • Proactively contribute to the team and willingly take on diverse tasks.
  • Exhibit maturity, responsibility, and strong decision-making skills.
  • Above all: reliable, proactive, and critical thinker.
  • Experience in education or working with kids in any capacity is a plus.

Time Commitment

  • This part-time position offers flexible shifts based on our bookings, making it an ideal choice for those seeking supplemental income.
  • Weekly commitment can range between 6 - 20hrs per week (or more during peak seasons),  depending on your availability and events booked. Events typically occur on weekday evenings or weekends. Additional shifts may be offered based on skill level and abilities.

Pay
