Summary
The Sierra Nevada Field Campus is a 75-year-old research and education camp located in the Tahoe National Forest about an hour north of Truckee, CA. Our small seasonal kitchen staff cooks 2 meals a day (with a pack out lunch) and assists with the general maintenance of the camp from the end of May to the end of August. Working here comes with plenty of free time to enjoy the mountains, free access to world-class courses in natural history and art, and boundless opportunities for growing your culinary skillset.

- What: The Sierra Nevada Field Campus is seeking a full-time seasonal employee to help with kitchen, cleaning, maintenance, and setup/takedown duties for the summer session.
- Where: Sierra Nevada Field Campus, 35400 Hwy 49 near Bassetts, California and near the beautiful Lakes Basin, Yuba Pass, and Sierra Valley. About 1 hour north of Truckee, CA.
- When: May 27-Sep 7 (with some flexibility)
- Pay rate range: $18-28/hour DOE
- Full time, forty hours per week
- Room and board included for duration of employment
- Easy access to world-class trails, lakes, and mountains
TASKS
- Assist the Head Chef in planning, coordinating, and executing all aspects of food service at the Field Campus
- Help set up facilities in preparation for the summer program in late May, including the kitchen, tents, bathrooms, etc.
- Takedown/close up facilities in late August following the program
- Help prepare and serve 2 meals per day (plus pack-out lunch), clean facilities daily, perform minor maintenance duties, perform other duties as directed
REQUIREMENTS
- Experience working in food service and/or a dynamic work environment where quick adaptation to change is extremely helpful. Should have the ability to work well with others, take directions, and learn from their experiences.
- Capable of performing light to moderately strenuous physical tasks such as moving full cooking pots, arranging tables and chairs, assisting in various maintenance activities, etc.
- Strong communication & interpersonal skills. Positive attitude and work ethic. Self-motivated
- Reliability & flexibility
- Must be okay with early morning cooking work. Breakfast prep begins at 5:45/6 am
PREFERRED
- Catering, restaurant, or other large group cooking experience
- Experience with maintaining spreadsheets, calendars, and other planning systems in a highly organized fashion
- Our Field Campus is in a very rural area far from services. It would be helpful to have some sort of transportation but please reach out to us should you have questions about this aspect of the position.
