GreenTree Co-op Market of Mt Pleasant, MI seeks an individual with a passion for the cooperative business model to oversee all aspects of managing our cooperatively owned grocery store.
With a population of 21,000, Mt Pleasant is a vibrant community with a small-town feel. It is home to Central Michigan University, a children’s Discovery Museum, several public recreation centers, and a wide range of parks and trails along the beautiful Chippewa River. Mt Pleasant is also home to the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe whose rich heritage is celebrated by the community.

GreenTree Co-op Market is on a growth trajectory, having moved into a brand new 10,000 square foot store just two years ago. Sales are currently $4.5 million annually and are continuing to grow. With a staff of just over 30 and a committed, growing membership, the future is bright for our store.

The GM oversees all aspects of co-op operations including finance, human resources, marketing, and community outreach and reports to the Board of Directors within a policy governance structure. We are looking for an individual who enjoys having a high level of engagement in the community and will nurture a culture of service.
Leadership
The primary duty of the General Manager is to provide effective and positive leadership through modeling appropriate behavior and maintaining high visibility.
Financial and Planning
The GM directs all financial operations of the Co-op, including preparing operating and capital budgets, and is held accountable for control of resources. The GM thinks conceptually, imaginatively, and systematically about success and creates and communicates a compelling vision with goals.
Operations
The GM will maintain knowledge of natural foods retailing and industry trends as well as plan and execute operational strategies designed to maintain adequate profit to ensure a sustainable business. The GM ensures that the Co-op is running smoothly and meeting customer, staff, and community needs.
Personnel
The GM is responsible for ensuring a safe, healthy workplace for employees. They also hire, supervise, and evaluate all members of the leadership team and staff.
Qualifications include:
- Strong business acumen and financial skills.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Retail food store or prepared foods management experience.
- Commitment to cooperative values and structure.

Salary and benefits:
$60,000-75,000 commensurate with experience.
