Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Café Manager will collaborate with a passionate team, encompassing both front and back-of-house roles, dedicated to delivering exceptional and informative guest experiences. Leveraging their industry expertise, they will cultivate a positive and dynamic workplace culture rooted in education while overseeing the cafe's daily operations. You are expected to provide leadership in line with LAG&C values and promote a healthy, trusting, and progressive work environment in alignment with our mission and policies.  

JOB DESCRIPTION

Human Resources

  • Perform effective scheduling, labor allocation including leadership coverage to meet Café needs. 
  • Adjust labor in real time to meet department needs.
  • Check in or check out staff for breaks or clock outs.
  • Oversee daily time clock submittals and submit payroll every other week.
  • Hire to the needs of the business, actively recruiting to ensure open positions fill quickly.
  • Train and conduct department introductions for new Café employees.
  • Prepare and deliver corrective actions and performance reviews in a timely manner.
  • Follow documentation and compensation guidelines.

Management/Education

  • Maintain the Café in a neat, clean and orderly manner.
  • Assess, prioritize and delegate tasks while also making beverages, serving customers and supporting the Kitchen Team as needed.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of department equipment and is able to train staff and troubleshoot errors as needed.
  • Oversee cash handling and customer check out procedures.
  • Manage Café flow and completion of delivery orders.
  • Balance administrative tasks with presence on floor.
  • Provide training and education of staff in the areas of seasonal menu changes, product. knowledge, product management, safety, quality control, health department and organization
  • Update department training guides as needed.
  • Model friendly and attentive customer service, coach staff to deliver an exceptional customer experience in the front end, utilize company systems / policies.
  • Ensure waste mitigation measures are being followed by Café staff.
  • Ensure that opening, closing, and cleaning procedures are performed.
  • Seek opportunities to train and develop staff members, recognize accomplishments, and identify areas of opportunity.
  • Demonstrate an ability to adapt to different learning styles among staff.

Operations

  • Collaborate with corporate and management teams for special events, inventory, hiring and training needs.
  • Manage new menu items: POS input, ingredient labels, photos, online ordering updates, etc.
  • Control department expenses by improving labor costs, reducing waste, and team building.
  • Manage Café cleaning schedules and assist/oversee any repairs/maintenance needs.
  • Monitor supply stock levels and oversee ordering of paper goods, department supplies, etc.
  • Order products with gross margin, general expense control and company ethos guidelines in mind.


WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • 2+ years of restaurant or coffee shop management.
  • Working in a high volume establishment is a plus.
  • Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, as needed.
  • Passion for warm hospitality and quality customer service.
  • Experience with educating/training employees, planning, assigning, directing work, rewarding and disciplining staff.
  • Practices communication in a professional and constructive manner with pro-active. interpersonal problem solving and resolution skills that demonstrates approachability and fosters open communication.
  • Promotes a collaborative team environment through recognition, leading by example and working alongside staff no matter how small the job.
  • Responds to and follows through in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates adaptability, flexibility and creativity in problem-solving and is solutions-oriented.
  • Acts decisively while basing decisions on experience, resources and circumstances.

  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Possess full body mobility (bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching). 
  • Intermediate Spanish language skills is a plus.
  • Intermediate to expert computer skills including email, MSOffice and/or Google Workspace.
