Market Staff play a key role in the success of our markets by ensuring onsite operational tasks are completed and providing a safe and welcoming atmosphere. Staff work in tandem with the Market Manager to set up the markets, run the market information booth - handling food access transactions, answering customer questions, and selling SWAG - and tear down at the end of the day. 

Market Staff should be dependable, able to effectively communicate with the public, have exceptional customer service skills, pay attention to detail, keep accurate records, and work with minimal direction. Connections to local businesses and residents in the neighborhoods we operate is a plus, as is experience working in farmers markets, small businesses, customer service, bookkeeping, children’s programming, and/or event management.

Work Environment

Market Staff will work outdoors at the markets. Our market operations are conducted in-person, in all weather types: rain, show, or shine! 

 

Responsibilities & Expectations

  • Set up and tear down of market equipment, signage, road closure and traffic management barriers
  • Staff market information booth during market hours, selling SWAG items and answering customer questions
  • Understand food access programs (SNAP, Produce Perks, WIC FMNP, TANF Fruit & Vegetable Coupons, etc) and administer tokens and coupons
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Common Greens’ overarching mission and be able to communicate this to the public
  • Assist with onsite programming activities and data collection efforts as needed
  • Eagerness to work with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Provide an extraordinary customer service experience to market shoppers and producers 
  • Help manage volunteers at market: help to provide them with a rich experience, supervise their role, and document their time
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, step on/off cargo van, set up tents
  • Able to walk and stand for several hours at a time
  • Able to work in all weather conditions, e.g. heat, cold, rain, sun, wind, snow

 

Compensation this position is : hourly, $15-20/hr Application instructions
