Sentli Center for Regenerative Agriculture is seeking a passionate grower to care for an 1.5 acre urban farm and food forest and to share the joy of regenerative farming with the local community.  The urban garden currently has half an acre in organic vegetable production and close to 4,000 square feet of high tunnels. The goal is to expand the farm to meet the growing need for fresh local produce in regional food deserts that cover Hidalgo County. It’s a unique opportunity to be involved in the creation of a food forest that will have a lasting impact on the community. 

Seasonal salaried position working 40 hours a week for a two year period starting on May 1, 2024. Potential for permanent position. Work schedule depends on the growing season and needs on the farm. Some weekends may be required. Pay ranges from $37,440 to $43,000 annually depending on experience and education. Benefits include a flexible work schedule, holidays, paid time off,  access to farmland, and fresh fruits and vegetables from the garden. 

Responsibilities include but not limited to the following activities

• Production planning 
• Seeding and Transplanting
• Weed Management 
• Integrated Pest Management
• Soil Health Management
• Installing and Maintenance of Drip  Irrigation System
• Harvest Orders
• Recordkeeping
• Small scale animal keeping (chickens and goats)
• Guided tours for visitors 
• Present workshops to small scale beginning farmers.
• Lead volunteer program. 
• Develop Content and Manage Social Media

Qualifications:

The Farm Manager must have at least 2 years experience working on a farm and be familiar with regenerative farming practices. Preferred bachelor’s degree in agriculture. Enjoys working outside in all weather conditions and has the ability to safely lift and carry 40 lbs and perform physical labor for hours at a time. Much of the work will be carried out alone, but some projects will require collaboration with team members and supervising. Experience operating a tractor is a plus. Proficient in Spanish. Organized, Pays attention to details and can follow instructions. Must have experience and be comfortable frequently using technological tools such as a smartphone, the Microsoft Office suite, the Google suite and video conferencing platforms. Comfortable addressing a crowd and public speaking. Experience providing agricultural tours and presentations. Passionate about regenerative agriculture and have a desire to make a positive impact on the local community. Ideal candidates will have interest in improving farming and leadership skills and be committed to Sentli’s mission and purpose. Must pass a background check and no criminal history (because this role interacts with vulnerable populations). Candidates must have a clean driving record and driver’s license, required for insurance purposes and because driving is a component of the job duties.
