Curio Spice Co. is an independent, woman-owned, certified B Corp™ dedicated to finding unique, organic spices around the world, sourcing them responsibly and bringing them together in artful blends. Job description

Position Title: 

Retail Sales Manager
Position Type: Exempt FT  40+ hrs.

Schedule: 5 days inclusive of Sat & Sun
Location: Cambridge, MA & Boston, MA

Reports To: Director of Retail

 

Purpose: The Retail Sales Manager is responsible for managing the sales floor at Curio’s brick and mortar retail operations, including Curio Spice Co. Cambridge and Curio Spice Co. Boston Public Market and leading the teams accountable for meeting and exceeding sales goals. They will also help to grow the Curio Spice brand through successful customer interactions and delightful customer experiences. The Retail Sales Manager is responsible for: revenue goals and execution in both locations, in-person customer service, pickup program (Cambridge only), displays and merchandising, proper inventory rotation, training and developing store staff, ensuring high standards of hospitality that translate to robust sales, and supporting projects that relate to brand development and awareness, including overseeing our community program in Cambridge, The Lab @ Curio. This role will be managed and supported operationally by the Director of Retail to ensure success.

 

Key Responsibilities:
 

Retail Sales

  • Meet sales goals as outlined by the Director of Retail
  • Make plans to pivot to increase numbers when sales aren’t keeping up
  • Collaborate with team members to engage in creative sales techniques
 

Retail Floor Management

  • Interact with customers on the floor, lead by example
  • Observe employee interactions with customers. Give feedback and guidance as necessary when expectations are not being met
  • Work with team to merchandise, create fresh & inviting displays, keep pricing and signage current
  • Ensure daily/weekly/monthly tasks are completed in a timely manner
 

Retail Operations

  • Coordinate weekly bank deposits and data entry as needed
    • Communicate facilities upkeep and repairs to Director
    • Maintaining high standard of cleanliness and food safety
  • Communicate regularly with Director about city/landlord/BPM
  • Communicate regularly with Events & Marketing depts
  • Oversee transfers and inventory stock takes
     

Retail Team  

  • Assist in hiring, training, and managing spice associates
  • Model and cultivate a positive work environment
  • Manage key calendar dates, check-ins, reviews
  • Give and ask for regular feedback
  • Keep an open line of dialogue with leadership about staff morale & culture

 

 

Required Skills & Experience:

 

  • 2+ years retail or similar sales management experience
  • 2+ years experience managing direct reports
  • Experience with driving sales and implementing new sales techniques when goals aren’t being met
  • Excellent time management and prioritization
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Working knowledge or passion in specialty food, cooking, spices
  • Ability to maintain composure, efficiency, and quality of work in a fast-paced environment
  • Independent worker and self-starter
  • Ability to access Cambridge & Boston locations
  • Ability to work both Saturday and Sundays
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand for 8 hrs
  • Ability to reach overhead, bend down, and continually able to walk up and down a staircase carrying boxes, products and other necessary items
  • Curio requires all employees to provide proof of up to date COVID-19 vaccinations upon hiring. Employees are required to stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations and must be willing to comply with mask mandates when required

  • Food industry experience
  • Experience with Shopify
  • Experience with inventory management systems
  • Experience with hiring and training
