Now in our 14th year, Short Winter Soups makes inspired, high-integrity soups for every season. We sell our soups direct to consumers in central NC. Our small team of 5 churns out 60 gallons of soup per week, all made entirely by hand at our kitchen facility in Hillsborough.
Job description ROLE OVERVIEWHelp make and distribute great soups. This position has a little bit of everything, where you'll work as part of a small team and also independently to make, deliver and sell our soups directly to consumers in central NC.
Your role is divided up in the following ways:
KITCHEN (50%) -- Mondays and Thursdays
Working alongside our small kitchen team, you'll see soups through from start to finish. This includes setting up workstations, washing, peeling, and chopping a variety and large volume of vegetables; cooking or baking off individual ingredients for soups; blending; packaging and labeling soups; dishes and clean-up. Full Disclosure: lots of dishes and cleaning shared between all employees.
MARKETS & DELIVERIES (35%) -- Tuesdays and Saturdays
You'll be responsible for making weekly deliveries in our company van and staffing two weekly, year-round farmers' markets. This includes pack out, set up, take-down for each market, and working independently throughout.
ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT -- Flexible
You'll focus additional hours on supporting inventory and kitchen organization on any day(s) of your choosing.
Our commercial kitchen is located 1 mile from downtown Hillsborough, NC.
YOU ARE:
- Organized and is a stickler for details in all aspects of work, including cleaning
- Looking for stable, year round employment
- Able to work quickly, cleanly & efficiently, with a sense of urgency & purpose
- Able to follow all safety and sanitation policies when handling food
- Open to giving & receiving feedback in a mutually respectful context

- A self-starter who can keep themselves on track to fully complete tasks with a positive can-do attitude
- Lift and move 50 pounds
- Stand for extended periods of time
- Repeat the same physical movements and repetitive tasks with precision
- Work outside all types of weather
- Experience with farming, food prep and dish washing, and/or selling at farmers’ markets
- A love of vegetarian food
- Your own vehicle, with fold-down seats or a large trunk for deliveries and markets
