Company description We're a family who lives in Brooklyn Heights, NY. Job description
We are a Brooklyn Heights-based couple with busy work schedules. We are looking for an experienced and passionate home cook to prepare weekly meals and assist in some household tasks to help our lives run smoothly! The work would be about 85% kitchen-related work and 15% other household work and errands. Our 17-year-old twins will be leaving for college in August and will be home from time to time, so it'll mostly just be the two of us, but sometimes 4 of us!

This is a part-time position, with scheduling flexibility and room for lots of creativity. The position involves meal planning for dinner and work lunches, as well as grocery shopping (via Fresh Direct, local stores, and greenmarket runs) and meal preparation and cleanup. As our home cook, you will be responsible for managing our kitchen and keeping it stocked, organized, and clean. This will comprise the majority of your responsibilities, with creativity and passion in the kitchen encouraged and welcomed!

You will also oversee household tasks such as making appointments for repairs and service visits and sometimes being present for them, running kitchen towels and cloth napkins through the washer and dryer, walking/feeding/bathing our dog, changing light bulbs, breaking down boxes, and running small errands (sending a package, picking up a prescription, going to the hardware store, getting something framed, etc). We are looking for someone who understands the sometimes complex necessities of keeping a home life organized, comfortable, and welcoming, and who notices when certain areas of the apartment need better organization or tidying!

The position will likely amount to approximately 15 hours a week, with flexibility in scheduling; earliest start date: May 20.  For the month of August we spend time at a house on Long Island, so we'll need you to be able to travel there (and stay with us in the house) for 3-4 days per week. During August, you would be making larger meals for up to twelve people and we would adjust payment accordingly.

Having cooking experience -- either cooking school or restaurant work -- is required. Having a driver's license and a car that you can use for errands or to travel to our second home is preferred; mileage will be reimbursed. We are also looking for someone who is by nature organized, tidy, and detail oriented (who will notice we are out of cumin or honey, and will order it!).

Per hour rate: $27/hr
