Summary:
The Assistant Director, Neighborhood Resilience will support CCSJ’s efforts to foster leadership and community outreach strategies in the areas of food equity, corridor local purchasing and promotional efforts, and sustainability/climate and environmental justice. The Assistant Director will also support a York Road Community Day program in building positive social networks and community building along the York Road corridor. The Assistant Director will support the Associate Director, Neighborhood Resilience in maintain operations of the Govans Farmers Market (
GFM) site and a future pop-up retail space.


Advise the CCSJ team in regards to food recovery and access, sustainability, and climate resilience.

Work with CCSJ’s Assistant Director for Student Leadership to develop and implement a student leadership network for nutrition education, food recovery, and food distribution opportunities (including oversight of the Govans Community Fridge, volunteering with Soul Kitchen, and other produce access programs). Supervise CCSJinterns responsible for planning York Road Community Days (Saturday afternoons of neighborhood-based service for greening and youth recreation activities). Participate in CCSJstudent intern selection, training and evaluation. Meet bi-weekly with each student interns to provide oversight and guidance regarding partnerships, program administration, job responsibilities and racial justice learning (guides personal and professional development). Conduct performance evaluations.

Operational and programmatic oversight of the Govans Farmers Market (GFM) site

Work with staff from the Office of Sustainability, CCSJ’s Associate Director of Programs, national service members, and the Govans Farmers Market Manager to support activities and events tied to food, sustainability/climate, and environmental justice. Support efforts around an emerging community composting program located on-site. Maintenance the Govans Community Fridge shelves and refrigerator. Support the Govans Farmers Market Manager with logistics for summer youth programming around the GFM and urban agriculture.

Advise student programs around local purchasing and promotion of the York Road commercial corridor.

Advise student leadership promotional activities for the buy and support local efforts tied to the GFM and the York Corridor Business Improvement District Management Authority, including an emerging campus-wide student network for the effort. Support the Associate Director, Neighborhood Resilience in developing and maintaining a retail pop-up space in the reception area of a new community-university space in the university’s Public Safety building, including vendor and product curation.

Partnership Management and Community Relations
The Assistant Director will also maintain Loyola’s relationships along the York Road corridor, including providing administrative support for the York Road Partnership Public Spaces and Greening Committee and serving as Loyola’s representative on the Friends of Dewees Park. Meetings and events will require some weekend and evening work. Role will serve as a Transform Mid-Atlantic AmeriCorps VISTAsupervisor and will attend related meetings, as needed.

The Assistant Director will also participate in other regional and national associations and networks relevant to their program portfolio.

Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
