Company description

HEX Superette is a one-of-a-kind tasting room (bar + kitchen) and local market in the Govans neighborhood of Baltimore City. It is the sibling of HEX Ferments, Baltimore’s own fermented foods company that has been making nutritious, living foods since 2013. The tasting room features quality ingredients and artisan foodways, executed in an approachable way.  We host events and programming that aim to build community, and we’re passionate about the power of food to transform our health, our local economy and our planet.

Job description

The ideal candidate is a skilled mixologist, with a strong knowledge of recipes, techniques and trends. This person revels in providing a great guest experience and enjoys working with a team to provide a memorable experience. A can-do attitude is a must!

As Beverage Host you are one of the first people guests interact with. Behind the bar,  you’ll  warmly welcome and introduce HEX Superette to the guest and assist them in navigating the tasting room offerings of drink and food. We serve an evolving scratch-made menu of food along with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. We also offer fermented flights of sauerkrauts, kimchis, pickles and kombucha. The role requires you to be a good listener and multi-tasker with a friendly attitude. For example, at any given time you could be making drinks, submitting an order to the kitchen, expediting, and carrying on a conversation with guests.

Our beverage menu highlights housemade fermentation and preservation techniques while incorporating many local ingredients. Additionally, you will become well-versed in HEX Ferments offerings and processes, introducing and guiding the guest experience - from the nuance of flavors to the greater understanding of live foods. You’ll work with fermentation byproducts like brines and kombucha vinegars to create beverages, along with bitters, shrubs, oxymels, verjus, and more. Creativity is highly encouraged while keeping these elixirs fresh and well stocked, as we expand the potential of offerings.

Previous bartending experience is required, and hires are given further training to be successful in their role - we support a culture of intellectual curiosity and life-long learning.
